Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group owns the Cox & Kings brand sold at coxandkingstravel.com, and the company that takes the booking is Abercrombie & Kent Limited (Companies House 01082430) of Cheltenham. The name is older than any company that now uses it, which is why the ownership question comes up so often.

Richard Cox founded the business on 25 May 1758 as an agent to the British Army, according to the company's own history. The modern group's Indian-listed parent collapsed in 2019 and, as Skift reported in November 2024, remains in liquidation. The historic UK subsidiary, Cox & Kings (UK) Limited, was dissolved on 24 April 2023.

Abercrombie & Kent Travel Group bought the brand in 2019, per TravelPulse. Companies House shows Abercrombie & Kent Limited owned by Abercrombie & Kent Global Travel Limited since May 2019, which is in turn owned by A&K Corp. Limited. Above that, Heritage Group, chaired by Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, and Geoffrey Kent agreed in February 2019 to buy all of Abercrombie & Kent, 85% and 15% respectively.

A second, unrelated business now uses the name in India. In November 2024 Wilson & Hughes, a Singapore-based investor, bought the Cox & Kings name and about 200 sub-brands for the Indian domestic market through the insolvency process. It has no link to the brand sold from London.

Cox & Kings prices its small-group tours between USD 3,095 per person for seven days in Andalucia and USD 9,695 for 11 days in Japan, with no season or departure date shown beside the price. Cox & Kings booking terms and financial protection

Cox & Kings asks for at least 15% at booking and the balance 75 days before departure, and its booking conditions, updated February 2026, contain no ATOL, ABTA or other protection wording.

The protection exists at group level. The same conditions name Abercrombie & Kent Limited as the seller, and AITO lists Abercrombie & Kent at the same Cheltenham address with ATOL 2881 and ABTA V6398. A buyer who wants the ATOL certificate for a flight-inclusive trip should ask for it at booking, because the Cox & Kings pages will not show it.

One contradiction is worth settling in writing before booking alone. The solo travellers page, read on 24 September 2026, says Cox & Kings "refuses to levy any single supplements" on its solo tours, while the booking conditions say that anyone travelling alone pays supplements. Amendments after booking cost USD 200 per person.

Support on the ground

Cox & Kings says a person is available "around the clock", but the only number it prints, +1 708 665 6699, is staffed Monday to Friday 9:00 to 18:00 and Saturday 10:00 to 16:30, UK time.

The homepage adds "offices and trusted partners in over 100 countries" without naming one. The customer office is at 80 Strand, London. Small-group tours carry caps between 14 and 18 guests, which implies a tour leader, but no page says whether the leaders are Cox & Kings staff or local guides.

What Cox & Kings reviews say

Cox & Kings holds 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 1,212 reviews, on a profile the company claimed in May 2026, with the newest review about 19 September 2026.

There is no Feefo profile. An older Trustpilot page for Cox & Kings, The Americas shows 4.2 from 142 reviews and states that the business closed after a 2019 bankruptcy; its last review is dated 31 March 2020. The two British Travel Awards 2025 wins listed on the About page could not be confirmed at the awarding body for this record.

Cox & Kings suits travellers who want a culturally led small-group tour at a published price, with 14 to 18 guests, and who are content to book through a brand of the Abercrombie & Kent group.
