About Uncompromised Travel

Editorial · Independent · Founded 2024

Hello. I'm Richard, and this is the site I wish had existed when I started planning my own trips properly. Uncompromised Travel is a small, independent publication about private aviation, yacht charter, expedition travel, luxury stays, relocation, and the slow-built knowledge that makes every trip better than the last. It exists because I love travel, because I love helping people navigate it well, and because most of what gets published in this space is written by people with something to sell you.

Why this site exists

The honest answer is that I got tired of reading travel writing that was really advertising wearing a magazine's clothes. Hotel articles that somehow always concluded the hotel was wonderful. Jet charter "guides" written by brokers. Listicles that ranked twelve properties in the order of which operator had the highest commission rate. For serious travellers — people who can afford to fly private and have too little time to waste on trips that don't deliver — there was almost nothing you could actually trust.

So I started writing what I wanted to read instead. Articles that treat you like an adult. That tell you when something is overrated. That give you the numbers without the soft focus. That admit when the honest answer is "don't bother."

What I want, more than anything else, is for people to feel comfortable trying new things — and to feel well-informed before they book. To stop getting lost in marketing they can't trust. If this site helps even a few readers plan a trip that turns out better than it otherwise would have, and makes them feel like they had good counsel when they did it, that's the whole point. Every article starts from that intention.

What I cover

Six pillars, chosen deliberately:

  • Private Aviation Charter, jet cards, fractional programmes, empty legs, event flights, hidden fees, how to verify an operator. Written for people actually flying private rather than dreaming about it.
  • Yacht Charter Crewed and bareboat, region by region, from the Mediterranean to French Polynesia. What a superyacht week actually involves — the APA, the gratuities, the provisioning decisions that shape the trip.
  • Expeditions Antarctica, luxury trains, expedition cruises, overland journeys. The places and journeys that reward preparation and punish improvisation.
  • Stays Villas, luxury hotels, ryokans, riads, alpine lodges, wilderness camps. Where to actually stay, and the trade-offs nobody puts in the press release.
  • Relocation For internationally mobile families — UK non-dom planning, Dubai and Singapore expat life, Portugal and Italy residency, golden visa programmes that still work in 2026.
  • Travel Intelligence The reference shelf. Lead times, service philosophy, eSIMs, jet lag, tipping, how to recognise genuine luxury from performed luxury. The things that compound across every trip you take.

How this site operates

The short version: long-form articles, first-person where possible, fact-checked against primary sources before publication, updated at least every 90 days, no sponsored content, no soft-pedalling to protect commercial relationships. The longer version lives on the two pages below, and I would rather you read those than take my word for it here.

The operational detail

Two pages that explain exactly how this works

If you want to know how articles actually get made, or exactly how the site earns money, those questions have their own dedicated pages rather than being buried in this one.

  • How we work →   The full editorial process — research, writing standards, fact-checking, AI tools, press visits, the 90-day refresh cycle, and the final test before anything publishes.
  • Disclosure →   Every affiliate relationship named. How the commission model works. What earning a commission does and does not mean for what you read here.

Who this site is for

The readers I think about when I'm writing:

  • The couple planning their first real luxury trip Trying to understand what they're actually paying for, nervous about the spend, determined not to waste it.
  • The family figuring out their first private jet charter Not sure what questions to ask, wanting to avoid being oversold, wanting to know what to expect once they're at the FBO.
  • The person thinking about relocating To Dubai, Singapore, Lisbon, Milan, Monaco, wherever — who needs honest information about what life there is actually like, beyond what the wealth managers are selling.
  • The traveller who's been everywhere and wants somewhere new With the confidence that the trip will be worth the time. The time pressure is real. The trip has to deliver.
  • Anyone who's been burned by marketing And wants to read something that tells them the honest thing instead.

If you're any of those readers, you're who this site is for. Thank you for being here.
