Tauck scores 75 out of 100: full marks for pricing and protection, and held back by mixed reviews, no named planners and no printed 24-hour number. It is not on the Power Rankings, which were set on an older rubric; the rankings will be recalculated from these records.

Tauck is built the opposite way to the tailor-made companies in these records: nothing is private, everything is priced, and the person who matters is the Tauck Director with the group rather than a planner in an office. Who owns Tauck?

Tauck is a privately held, family-owned company, run since October 2024 by chief executive Jennifer Tombaugh, with Dan Mahar as chairman and Arthur Tauck Jr. as chairman emeritus.

Tauck's own Tauck difference page calls it "a family-owned company of passionate travelers"; no parent group, investor or share listing was found. The leadership change, announced on 13 February 2024 and reported by Seatrade Cruise News, moved Mahar from chief executive to chairman, Tombaugh from president to chief executive and Jeremy Palmer from chief operating officer to president. Tauck's site has no leadership page, so these names come from trade press.

How much does a Tauck tour cost?

Tauck tours read for this record cost from USD 5,290 per person for eight days in the canyonlands of the American West to USD 18,290 for 20 days in Australia and New Zealand. All prices were read on 25 September 2026 and are starting prices per person.

Each tour page names its hotels night by night. Classic Italy runs from the Hilton Sorrento Palace to the Hotel Monaco and Grand Canal in Venice, with a boat along the Cinque Terre and the Vatican Museums included; the Kenya and Tanzania safari names the Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti and the Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club. Tauck booking terms and financial protection

Tauck takes a USD 600 deposit per person, wants final payment 90 days before departure on land tours and 120 days on cruises and rail journeys, and has a member profile with the United States Tour Operators Association.

These are the fees without Tauck's optional Guest Protection Plan; with it, a traveller who cancels for any reason up to the day before departure loses only the cost of the plan. The terms, valid from 1 November 2025, print California Seller of Travel 2016001-20, and USTOA lists Tauck with a member profile.

Who plans and leads a Tauck trip

Tauck sells through its reservations team and travel advisors rather than named planners, and puts one of its own Tauck Directors with every group.

Tauck says its directors hail "from 41 countries" and speak 52 languages; none is named with a profile on the pages read. Local guides join the directors on the ground, and on safari its Africa page describes game drives led by trackers, drivers, rangers and Tauck Directors.

Support on the ground

Tauck describes a dedicated 24-hour emergency assistance hotline for its guests and a Global Response Team, but the pages read do not print the number.

Its reservations line, 1 800 788 7885, keeps evening hours six days a week and closes on Sundays. During a tour the Tauck Director travels with the group throughout; no Tauck office in the destinations is named.

What Tauck reviews say

Tauck's independent reviews are mixed: 4.0 out of 5 on Cruise Critic from 94 river and small-ship reviews, 3.0 on Tripadvisor from 49, and 2.7 on an unclaimed Trustpilot profile from 91, the newest from 22 August 2026.

The Better Business Bureau rates Tauck A+ but does not accredit it. The volumes are small for a company that has sold tours since 1925; who reviews the reviewers explains why the platform matters as much as the score.
