Pelorus scores 44/100 as a company record: the London company two former British Army captains founded in 2017 prices its private adventures from £20,000 per person and is run by people with real expedition records, but publishes no booking terms, no financial protection and has no independent reviews. Pelorus scores 44 out of 100: strong on planning and published prices, and held back by no booking terms, no financial protection and no independent reviews. It is not on the Power Rankings, which were set on an older rubric; the rankings will be recalculated from these records.

Pelorus has what few companies in these records can show, founders who have led expeditions themselves, and lacks what most publish as a matter of course: booking terms and a protection number. At £20,000 and more per person, a buyer needs both in writing before paying.

The evidence record

The record holds 18 facts about Pelorus, each with its source and grade. Who owns Pelorus?

Pelorus is controlled by its co-founder and chief executive, Geordie Mackay-Lewis, the only person with significant control of PelorusX Ltd, with more than half the shares and at least 75% of the votes.

Co-founder Jimmy Carroll was registered with 75% or more of the shares from 2019 until that entry ended on 20 October 2022; he remains a director, and his current holding, if any, is not on the register. A third director, Jasper Smith, joined in February 2020. The filing history shows new shares issued in July and August 2026, new articles adopted on 13 August 2026 and group accounts filed for 2025.

How much does a Pelorus trip cost?

Pelorus prices its sample experiences from £20,000 per person, for four nights of supercar driving in the Swiss Alps or seven in Greenland, to £82,000 for eight nights at a camp in Antarctica, and its FAQ says trips typically start from £40,000 per person. Prices were read on 25 September 2026; they are "from" prices per person and exclude international flights.

None of the pages runs day by day; each names a lead camp or hotel, such as Xigera Safari Lodge in Botswana or Ilimanaq Lodge in Greenland, and lists what is included. Pelorus booking terms and financial protection

Pelorus publishes no booking conditions and no financial protection: its site has no deposit, balance or cancellation terms and no ATOL, ABTA or ABTOT number, although Companies House lists its business as tour operator activities.

The only terms page is the website terms of use, revised on 14 January 2026, which cover use of the site, not a booking; the sitemap lists no other legal page. The credentials printed in the footer are an IATA agent number, 91203162, for ticketing flights, AECO and IAATO membership for polar travel, and B Corp certification; none of them protects a traveller's payment if a company fails. Who plans a Pelorus trip

Pelorus is run by two former British Army captains, and its team pages list first-hand experience few travel companies can claim: expeditions in Antarctica, heli-ski guiding in New Zealand and diving in Papua New Guinea.

Jimmy Carroll's profile lists Antarctic expeditions, heli-ski guiding, diving in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, a crossing of the Darién Gap and an Atlantic row in 2020; Geordie Mackay-Lewis's profile lists Socotra, Antarctica, Costa Rica, Mexico and Norway, two Afghanistan deployments and a winter mountain leader qualification. Lindsey Walter, chief operating officer, was raised in South Africa. Travel Weekly reported that 65% of clients arrive through travel advisors.

Support on the ground

Pelorus says its team offers "24/7 support" while clients travel, but prints no 24-hour number; its UK and US lines are published without hours.

Before departure clients receive a pack with "profiles of your host and guides"; whether those guides are Pelorus staff is not stated. Travel Weekly places part of its team in Cape Town.

What Pelorus reviews say

Pelorus has no independent reviews to read: the Trustpilot profile under its pelorusx.com domain is unclaimed and has none, and no other review profile was found.

Pelorus yachts and private aviation

Beyond land trips, Pelorus charters and sells yachts through Pelorus Yachting and brokers private flights through Pelorus Aviation, which Travel Weekly reports became a licensed aviation broker in 2025.
