Ker & Downey World Travel is a family business run by its president and chief executive, David Marek, who works with his daughters Sara Kramer and Haley Beham; no parent company or outside investor is named.
Its own pages tell two founding stories. The why us page says "Founded in 1985 by David Marek". The history page says the Houston businessman Thomas Friedkin bought the Kenyan business in 1975 and "by 1980" had opened a US tour company under the name, that Marek joined in 1985 and later became president, and that after Friedkin sold his interest in 1995 "the new shareholder group" widened it beyond Africa. That group is not named. The BBB file gives a start date of 1974.

Ker & Downey World Travel takes a non-refundable advance payment of 30%, wants final payment 120 days before departure, and publishes no financial protection: its terms limit any recovery to the commissions and fees it received.

The terms add a USD 500 fee for non-repeat travellers or travel agents and USD 150 per change per person, and say Ker & Downey "is not the source or supplier of the travel services requested, and acts solely as an agent". Because the deposit and cancellation scale are its own, it is scored as the seller, like Kensington Tours, whose terms use similar agent wording. No independent reviews of Ker & Downey World Travel could be found: its Trustpilot profile, claimed in August 2016, has none, and neither do its SafariBookings or Birdeye listings.
The Better Business Bureau lists the company as Ker & Downey Safaris in Houston and does not rate it. A Yelp listing exists but could not be read. Reviews on Travelstride and Tripadvisor under the Ker & Downey name belong to Ker & Downey Africa, which the Texas company says is separate, and are not counted.
