The Ritz-Carlton is seventeenth of twenty brands on our luxury hotel brand hierarchy, at 71 out of 100: a Marriott International brand with 126 hotels and 32,279 rooms at year-end 2025, including nine Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties, and no page we opened names a Ritz-Carlton brand leader separate from Marriott's own executives. This record is the evidence file behind that score. It sets out what The Ritz-Carlton and Marriott publish about the brand, how Forbes Travel Guide and the MICHELIN Guide rate the hotels we could read, what could not be found, and where our own pages state figures neither company publishes.

Is this your company? Correct a fact. The Ritz-Carlton can correct any line of this record through the contact page. Corrections are logged with the previous value kept, and the score moves only if the evidence does.
The Ritz-Carlton scores 71 out of 100, seventeenth of twenty brands: 11 of 20 for rate band, 19 of 25 for consistency across the portfolio, 15 of 20 for service depth, 12 of 15 for food and drink and 14 of 20 for privacy and scale. The points are the luxury hotel brand hierarchy's of 7 September 2026, carried unchanged; under each criterion is what we could read on 26 September 2026. None of it contradicts a figure the hierarchy prints, though our own ultra-luxury hotel service, compared page states two figures that neither Ritz-Carlton nor Marriott print anywhere we opened: a $2,000 per-incident spending allowance and a $250,000 lifetime guest value.
| Criterion | Points | Out of | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rate band | 11 | 20 | No Ritz-Carlton page we opened prints a rate outside booking. The hierarchy places The Ritz-Carlton in its luxury-at-scale band, EUR 400 to 1,000 a night. |
| Consistency across the portfolio | 19 | 25 | Marriott's 2025 annual report counts 126 Ritz-Carlton hotels with 32,279 rooms at the end of 2025, Reserve included. The MICHELIN Guide lists 92 and gives Keys to 43: Three at four Reserve properties (Mandapa, Nekajui, Phulay Bay and Rissai Valley), Two at nine, One at 30. Forbes Travel Guide rates The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto and The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong Five-Star. |
| Service depth | 15 | 20 | The Ritz-Carlton quotes no Credo, Motto or spending allowance on the pages we opened; Marriott Bonvoy's terms withhold member rates, room upgrades, late checkout and guaranteed availability at Reserve properties. |
| Food and drink | 12 | 15 | Tin Lung Heen at The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong holds Two MICHELIN Stars (MICHELIN Guide); no other Ritz-Carlton restaurant star was confirmed. |
| Privacy and scale | 14 | 20 | Rooms by the MICHELIN Guide: Mandapa 60, Nujuma 63, Geneva 74, Rissai Valley 87, Nikko 94, the Fari Islands 100 and Kyoto 134, against Hong Kong 312 and Orlando, Grande Lakes 582. Marriott's 32,279 rooms across 126 hotels average about 256. |
| Total | 71 | 100 | Luxury hotel brand hierarchy score of 7 September 2026, carried unchanged; evidence read 26 September 2026. |
The Ritz-Carlton publishes who owns it, when its first hotel opened and where its nine Reserve properties sit; it publishes less about itself directly, relying on Marriott's own filings for its hotel and room count and naming no brand leader, Credo, Motto or spending allowance on any page we opened. Of the outside ratings we could read, Forbes Travel Guide rates The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto and The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong Five-Star, and the MICHELIN Guide gives 43 of the 92 Ritz-Carlton hotels it lists a Key, including Three, its highest grade, at four Reserve properties.

The record holds 18 facts about The Ritz-Carlton, each with its source and grade. Grade A means the company's own site or terms; grade B means a rating body such as Forbes Travel Guide or the MICHELIN Guide, a registry or major press; grade C means a secondary source not confirmed elsewhere. Every line was read on 26 September 2026 unless its source says otherwise.

The Ritz-Carlton is owned by Marriott International, Inc. and operated as The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC; no page we opened names a Ritz-Carlton brand leader separate from Marriott's own executives.
Marriott's 2025 Form 10-K lists The Ritz-Carlton in its brand portfolio table, and its legacy page dates the operating company, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC, to 1983, "signaling a new era of expansion" after the first hotel opened in Boston in 1927. Marriott is listed on Nasdaq as MAR, with its head office at 7750 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20814 (map), and Anthony Capuano named President and Chief Executive Officer on Marriott's investor relations site. No page we opened, on ritzcarlton.com or marriott.com, names anyone as The Ritz-Carlton's own global brand leader; a guessed executive-team page returned nothing.
Our own Aman Resorts service philosophy and Four Seasons and the Golden Rule pages both describe a Ritz-Carlton service culture, Gold Standards and a defined per-guest spending sum, in more detail than any Ritz-Carlton or Marriott page we opened states; our ultra-luxury hotel service, compared page goes further still, naming a $2,000 per-incident allowance and a $250,000 lifetime guest value. This record treats all three as unconfirmed rather than false, and flags them for review on those pages.
Marriott counts 126 Ritz-Carlton hotels and 32,279 rooms at year-end 2025, including all nine Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties in the same total; Ritz-Carlton's own legacy page says "more than 100 hotels and resorts, and more on the way." The nine Reserve properties, read on 26 September 2026:
| Property | Where | MICHELIN Keys |
|---|---|---|
| Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Ubud, Bali, Indonesia | Three |
| Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Guanacaste, Costa Rica | Three |
| Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Krabi, Thailand | Three |
| Rissai Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Jiuzhaigou, China | Three |
| Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Los Cabos, Mexico | Two |
| Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | The Red Sea, Saudi Arabia | Two |
| Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Puerto Rico | One |
| Higashiyama, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Niseko, Japan | One |
| Siari, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Riviera Nayarit, Mexico | Not listed |
Marriott's 10-K counts residences apart from its hotel brands: 144 properties and 16,253 rooms across all its brands together, with no separate Ritz-Carlton figure. The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is covered in hotel brands at sea, where Evrima's first sailing in 2022 is confirmed on Ritz-Carlton's own legacy page; two more yachts, Ilma and Luminara, are dated there to 2024 and 2025, though the Yacht Collection's own site could not be read to confirm either date. How residence programmes score against each other is in branded residences index, and whether a guest should book a hotel in its first season is weighed in should you book a brand-new luxury hotel.
Forbes Travel Guide rates the two Ritz-Carlton hotels we could read Five-Star, and the MICHELIN Guide gives 43 of the 92 Ritz-Carlton hotels it lists a Key, from One up to Three, its highest grade, at four Reserve properties.
| Hotel | Forbes Travel Guide | MICHELIN Keys | Rooms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Unreadable | Three | 60 Rooms |
| Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Not read | Three | 107 Rooms |
| Phulay Bay, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Not read | Three | 54 Rooms |
| Rissai Valley, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Not read | Three | 87 Rooms |
| Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve | Not read | Two | 63 Rooms |
| The Ritz-Carlton Hotel de la Paix, Geneva | Not read | Two | 74 Rooms |
| The Ritz-Carlton, Nikko | Not read | Two | 94 Rooms |
| The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands | Unreadable | Two | 100 Rooms |
| The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto | Five-Star | One | 134 Rooms |
| The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong | Five-Star | One | 312 Rooms |
| The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes | Not read | One | 582 Rooms |
Forbes Travel Guide grades hotels Recommended, Four-Star or Five-Star; its pages for Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands, Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, and The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park could not be read, the last two redirecting to the Forbes home page. The MICHELIN Guide's own hotel pages give Mandapa, Nekajui and Phulay Bay Three Keys, and its Jiuzhaigou city listing settles Rissai Valley at Three Keys too, since Rissai Valley's own hotel page carries no Key text to our reader. Nujuma, the Geneva Hotel de la Paix, Nikko and the Fari Islands each hold Two Keys, and Kyoto, Hong Kong and Orlando, Grande Lakes each hold One; Tin Lung Heen, inside The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, separately holds Two MICHELIN Stars, the only starred Ritz-Carlton restaurant confirmed.
The Ritz-Carlton takes part in Marriott Bonvoy at every hotel, but Ritz-Carlton Reserve keeps points while losing several of the perks that come with a mainline stay, and the Yacht Collection runs on its own terms.
Marriott Bonvoy's own terms state that Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties "participate" and guests "Earn Points" and "Redeem Points" there, but Reserve stays do not carry Member Rates, the Gift Shop Discount, Complimentary Enhanced Room Upgrades, Late Checkout, Guaranteed Lounge Access, Guaranteed Room Type, 48-Hour Guaranteed Availability or Nightly Upgrade Awards; The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection is instead "an earning and redemption partner with unique participation." No page we opened states a best-rate guarantee, cancellation or deposit policy for The Ritz-Carlton, and a preferred-partner or travel-adviser programme page we guessed at returned nothing.
Our own hotel elite benefits, compared page says Marriott limits benefits at The Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which Bonvoy's own terms bear out, and that Nightly Upgrade Awards come up to three days before arrival at Ritz-Carlton rather than five; Bonvoy's terms exclude Reserve from those awards altogether. Our best credit cards for hotel elite status guide names a $100 property credit at Ritz-Carlton stays of two nights or more, which Marriott's credit cards page confirms for the Brilliant card, for a two-night minimum stay booked direct at a special rate. How Marriott's own top tier compares with Hilton's and Hyatt's is set out in Hilton Diamond vs Marriott Titanium vs Hyatt Globalist and the hotel status match guide, and the premium cards worth holding regardless are set out in our guide to the best luxury travel credit cards and, head to head, in Amex Platinum vs Chase Sapphire Reserve.
The Ritz-Carlton suits a Marriott Bonvoy member who wants a wide choice of hotels, 126 at year-end 2025, with full Bonvoy benefits; it suits less well a guest who wants the brand's highest-rated stays and those benefits together, since all four Three-Key hotels are Reserve properties, where several Bonvoy perks do not apply.
Room counts by the MICHELIN Guide run from 50 at Higashiyama in Niseko to 582 at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes, against an average of about 256 across all 126 hotels; city trips more widely are weighed in best city break destinations. Our own ultra-luxury hotel service, compared page states an entry rate from about $600 a night and describes a $2,000 per-incident spending allowance and a $250,000 lifetime guest value that no Ritz-Carlton or Marriott page we opened confirms; a reader who wants those figures sourced should treat them as unconfirmed rather than as a claim The Ritz-Carlton itself makes.
How Ritz-Carlton's service compares with Aman, Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental and St. Regis is set out on that same page, and the case for the best hotel over the best points balance is made in you do not owe any brand your loyalty.

The Ritz-Carlton appears on eleven Uncompromised Travel pages with a position or a figure, and holds a numbered rank on one of them.
| Page | Position | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Luxury hotel brand hierarchy | No. 17 of 20, 71/100 | Names Marriott International as owner and "Ritz-Carlton Reserve, nine properties from Dorado Beach and Mandapa to Nujuma on the Red Sea", matching the nine Reserve properties named on ritzcarlton.com |
| Ultra-luxury hotel service, compared | No score; "100+ properties worldwide" from about $600 a night | States every employee may spend "up to two thousand dollars per incident" and that the average guest spends "roughly $250,000" over a lifetime; neither figure appears on any Ritz-Carlton or Marriott page we opened |
| Aman Resorts service philosophy | No score | Says Ritz-Carlton's service "is structured around Gold Standards and daily line-ups"; no Ritz-Carlton page we opened names a Gold Standards text |
| Four Seasons and the Golden Rule | No score | Says Ritz-Carlton built its reputation on empowering staff to spend a defined sum, per guest, without naming the sum; no page we opened states one |
| Branded residences index | 22/100, scoring residences | Lists six Ritz-Carlton residences as Selling Now and calls one the first branded residence of the modern era, from 2000 in Washington DC |
| Hotel brands at sea | No score; three yachts, four regions | Names Evrima's 2022 first sailing, which ritzcarlton.com confirms, and Ilma (2024) and Luminara (2025), which no Ritz-Carlton or Yacht Collection page we opened could confirm |
| Direct vs Amex FHR vs Virtuoso | No score | Names Ritz-Carlton Reserve Dorado Beach and says Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador status applies there; not checked against a Ritz-Carlton page for this record |
| Hotel elite benefits, compared | No score | Says Marriott limits benefits at The Ritz-Carlton Reserve, which Bonvoy's own terms bear out, and that Nightly Upgrade Awards come up to three days before arrival at Ritz-Carlton; Bonvoy's terms exclude Reserve from those awards |
| Best credit cards for hotel elite status | No score | Names a $100 property credit at Ritz-Carlton stays of two nights or more; Marriott's card page confirms it for the Brilliant card, for a two-night minimum stay booked direct at a special rate |
| Hotel check-in privacy | No score | Lists Ritz-Carlton Reserve, with Aman and Belmond, among the hotels it says Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts includes |
| Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite | No score | Says Ambassador upgrades go further toward genuine suites at Ritz-Carlton; not confirmed on any Ritz-Carlton or Marriott page we opened |
The nearest alternatives on the same rubric, immediately above and below The Ritz-Carlton, are Park Hyatt, St. Regis, Waldorf Astoria and EDITION. St. Regis and EDITION share Ritz-Carlton's parent, Marriott International; Park Hyatt and Waldorf Astoria sit in the same tier, one place above and one below.
| Brand | Score | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| Park Hyatt | 75 | Keys at 18 of 45 MICHELIN-listed hotels, and Hyatt's own room count table gives no hotel total for the brand |
| St. Regis | 73 | 66 hotels and 14,241 rooms at year-end 2025, founded in 1904 by Colonel John Jacob Astor IV, twenty-three years before The Ritz-Carlton's first hotel |
| Waldorf Astoria | 69 | 40 hotels and 9,762 rooms at 30 June 2026, under Hilton rather than Marriott, with Keys at 13 of 17 MICHELIN-listed hotels |
| EDITION | 64 | 22 hotels and 4,617 rooms at year-end 2025 (Marriott), envisioned with Ian Schrager, with Keys at 7 of 20 MICHELIN-listed hotels, all One Key |
Six things a guest would want could not be found or verified for The Ritz-Carlton. Supplying a verifiable source closes a gap; it changes the evidence, never the rubric.

Marriott International, Inc., which operates it as The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC. Marriott is listed on Nasdaq as MAR, and Anthony Capuano is its President and Chief Executive Officer; no page we opened names a separate Ritz-Carlton brand leader. It scores 71 out of 100 on this record, seventeenth of twenty brands.
Marriott counts 126 at year-end 2025, with 32,279 rooms, including all nine Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties. Ritz-Carlton's own legacy page says "more than 100 hotels and resorts, and more on the way."
Yes, Marriott Bonvoy, at every hotel including Ritz-Carlton Reserve, though Reserve stays lose several perks: member rates, room upgrades, late checkout and guaranteed availability among them. The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection runs on separate terms.
No Ritz-Carlton page prints a rate outside booking. Our luxury hotel brand hierarchy places it in the luxury-at-scale band, EUR 400 to 1,000 a night; our own ultra-luxury comparison gives a figure of about $600 a night that no Ritz-Carlton or Marriott page confirms.
The MICHELIN Guide gives 43 of the 92 Ritz-Carlton hotels it lists a Key: Three, its highest grade, to Mandapa, Nekajui, Phulay Bay and Rissai Valley, all Ritz-Carlton Reserve properties; Two to nine hotels and One to 30 more.
The two we could read, The Ritz-Carlton, Kyoto and The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, are both Five-Star. Pages for Mandapa, the Maldives, Dorado Beach and New York Central Park hotels could not be read.
It varies widely: the MICHELIN Guide lists as few as 50 rooms at Higashiyama in Niseko and as many as 582 at The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes. Marriott's 32,279 rooms across 126 hotels average about 256.
The Ritz-Carlton, Boston, which opened in 1927. The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC, the modern operating company, formed in 1983.
Marriott International's 10-K gives 7750 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20814, as its head office. No separate Ritz-Carlton address was found on any page we opened.
On our luxury hotel brand hierarchy St. Regis scores 73 and The Ritz-Carlton 71. St. Regis leads on rate band, service depth and privacy and scale, each by a single point; The Ritz-Carlton leads on consistency across the portfolio, 19 against 18.
