Go2Africa has the deepest verified review record of any luxury safari operator (4.9/5 from 3,118 Feefo reviews, 173 in the past year), followed by Yellow Zebra (4.9/5 from 1,710 on Trustpilot) and Micato (5.0 from 751 Google reviews). The operator to be careful with is not the one with a bad rating but the one with a thin one: Roar Africa's entire public record is eight SafariBookings reviews, the newest from September 2024. This index scores the evidence, not the star rating, because a 5.0 from eight people and a 4.9 from three thousand are not the same thing, and because no two of these companies keep their reviews on the same platform.
| # | Operator | Home platform | Score | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Go2Africa Affiliate | Feefo 4.9 · 3,118 | 98 | Largest verified sample in the category; 173 ratings in the past year; corroborated by 106 SafariBookings reviews (4.4, last July 2025). |
| 2 | Yellow Zebra Safaris | Trustpilot 4.9 · 1,710 | 91 | Reviews arriving daily; 97% five-star. SafariBookings corroboration is exactly 25 reviews (4.8, Nov 2025), the minimum this index counts. |
| 3 | Micato Safaris | Google 5.0 · 751 | 88 | Newest review 3 September 2026; 61 Tripadvisor reviews corroborate. But an unclaimed Trustpilot 3.2 from one review, and no SafariBookings listing at all. |
| 4 | Extraordinary Journeys | Google 5.0 · 179 | 83 | Three Google reviews on 2 September 2026 alone; 35 on SafariBookings at 4.9. Sample is a tenth of the leaders'; Trustpilot profile empty and unclaimed. |
| 5 | Abercrombie & Kent | Trustpilot 4.4 · 780 | 69 | Deep and current, but 11% one-star and no qualifying second platform: 63 on Travelstride are mostly operator-supplied, the SafariBookings listing is a single 1.0 review, and the "Abercrombie & Kent" Feefo profile belongs to A&K Villas, a different company. |
| 6 | Scott Dunn | Trustpilot 4.6 · 273 | 64 | Current (1 September 2026) but 12% one-star, and its 558 Feefo reviews stopped six years ago, so Feefo now renders it as 0/5. |
| 7 | Ker & Downey Africa | SafariBookings 5.0 · 140 | 51 | Newest review September 2025; Trustpilot is one 2-star review; Feefo lapsed at seven. Three unrelated "Ker & Downey" companies share the SafariBookings search results. |
| 8 | Roar Africa | SafariBookings 5.0 · 8 | 25 | Eight independent reviews, newest September 2024; 53 more on Travelstride, but every one is "Provided by Roar Africa" and the newest is from 2019; Trustpilot unclaimed with zero. A 5.0 that no buyer can lean on. |

The first version of this index tried to score depth across a fixed set of platforms. That measures which platforms the analyst chose, which is the same sample-adequacy mistake the page is written to expose. The honest finding is that each of these companies has picked one place to collect reviews and left the others to rot: Go2Africa pays Feefo, Yellow Zebra pays Trustpilot, Micato and Extraordinary Journeys route clients to Google, and the two smallest US-facing operators exist publicly only on SafariBookings. So the index takes each operator's deepest single platform as the home sample, wherever it is, and then asks whether anything independent backs it up.
That second question is where most of the field falls down. Only Go2Africa, Yellow Zebra, Micato and Extraordinary Journeys have a second platform with a usable sample. Abercrombie & Kent, the largest company on the list by revenue, has 780 Trustpilot reviews and nothing else that is genuinely about the safari business. The luxury safari operator index scores these companies on what they deliver; this page scores only what can be verified about how customers rated them, and the two rankings are deliberately different.
If review depth is what decides it for you, Go2Africa's 3,118 Feefo reviews are the largest verified sample in the category, and it quotes lodges at the lodge's own published rate. Go2Africa is an affiliate of this site, not a paid placement; its position above is on the published rubric.

| Three Ker & Downeys | Three SafariBookings listings named Ker & Downey: p1701, p424, p1200 | Three unrelated companies: Ker & Downey Africa (Cape Town, 2012, 140 reviews), Ker & Downey Safaris (Nairobi, 1946, 0 reviews) and Ker & Downey (Texas, 0 reviews). Only the first is the operator scored here. |
| The one-star stub | Abercrombie & Kent at 1.0/5 on SafariBookings | One review, December 2024, about a light-aircraft transfer. Against 780 Trustpilot reviews at 4.4 it is noise, but a search result will show the 1.0. |
| The lapsed platform | Scott Dunn 0/5 and Ker & Downey Africa 0/5 on Feefo | Feefo renders a merchant that stopped paying as zero. Scott Dunn has 558 historical Feefo reviews from six years ago; the 0/5 says nothing about service. |
| The wrong company with the right name | A Feefo profile titled "Your holiday experience with Abercrombie & Kent" | It belongs to A&K Villas, the villa-rental arm, and its reviews are about houses in Italy and France, not safaris. |
| The unclaimed one-review profile | Micato 3.2/5 and Ker & Downey Africa 3.3/5 on Trustpilot | One review each. Micato's real record is 751 Google reviews at 5.0; Trustpilot is simply a platform it has never used, and the profile is unclaimed. |
| The operator-supplied feed | Roar Africa 5.0 from 53 reviews on Travelstride | Every one is labelled "Provided by Roar Africa" and the newest is from November 2019. Go2Africa (28) and Extraordinary Journeys (16) have the same kind of 2019 import. Real but not independent, and seven years old. |
| The perfect score with no sample | Roar Africa 5.0/5 | Eight independent reviews, the newest two years old, plus the operator-supplied Travelstride feed above. A 5.0 built on eight independent opinions is not evidence of anything; the company may be excellent, but the public record cannot show it. |

Micato is the operator ChatGPT names most often after Singita in this site's 40-prompt safari panel, and the one whose public record is hardest to find where the assistants look. That gap is a Micato problem, not a quality signal. The full assessment of what it delivers, its pricing tier and who it suits is on the Micato Safaris review; the head-to-heads are Micato vs Abercrombie & Kent and Roar Africa vs Micato.
Read the operator's home platform, not the first search result: the row above tells you where it is. Then read the newest ten reviews and the newest ten one-star reviews, and check whether the company replies. Abercrombie & Kent answers 83% of negatives on Trustpilot, which is worth more than a decimal point of rating. If the operator's only public record is on SafariBookings, ask it for three referees who travelled in the past twelve months; a company with 140 five-star reviews will have no trouble producing them. Finally, treat the score here as a filter, not a verdict: it tells you how much evidence exists, and the deposit and payment terms guide tells you how to protect the money once you have chosen. If the negative reviews you find are about light-aircraft transfers rather than camps, which is the pattern on this page, a private charter quote for the inter-camp legs is the way to take that variable out of the operator's hands.
If none of the eight fits the budget, the same platforms cover the mid-market. Safari.com carries 1,600-plus Trustpilot reviews of its own and lists lodge-level inventory with prices, and BookAllSafaris shows per-trip reviews next to per-trip prices, which is the shape this index argues every operator should publish. The platform-versus-specialist question is argued in full on safari booking platforms 2026.
The one-star reviews on this page cluster around transfers and light aircraft, not camps. For a party of six or more, or a Sabi Sand to Serengeti move, a private charter booked directly is the cleanest fix, and it lets you choose the aircraft.
