The BodyHoliday ranks above Rancho La Puerta on the tie-break: both score 78, and The BodyHoliday scores 25 on solo pricing to Rancho La Puerta's 15. The medical clinics score well on named doctors and cancellation terms but lose on prices: Kamalaya and SHA Wellness Clinic price the programme per guest and leave the room unpriced, and three retreats, Clinique La Prairie, Buchinger Wilhelmi and Euphoria Retreat, publish no price at all. Rancho La Puerta is the only retreat whose website tells one person the full cost of a week before they enquire.

Only The BodyHoliday (78) states that it charges no single supplement, on its Solo Garden View and Solo Garden Terrace rooms; Rancho La Puerta (78) publishes a solo casita at $5,950 a week, $500 more than its cheapest sharing rate, and none of the other 13 scored retreats publishes a current price for one person. The BodyHoliday publishes no room rates, so its promise cannot be checked against a sharing price; its September Solos page also mentions guests "paying for Single occupancy in a double room", which suggests a double room for one costs more. At Rancho La Puerta one guest alone in a Ranchera pays $6,200 a week against $5,450 each for two, so its Ranchero Solo casita, at $5,950, is the cheaper way to go alone. Europe's clinics publish their doctors more readily than their prices.

Lanserhof, Buchinger Wilhelmi and SHA name their physicians; Buchinger, Clinique La Prairie and Euphoria publish no price. The BodyHoliday is the one retreat of the 16 that states it charges no single supplement: its rooms page describes Solo Garden View and Solo Garden Terrace rooms with "no single supplement or surcharge" (25 of 25). Its September Solos month, which in 2026 ran from 28 August to 26 September, adds hosted Communal Tables, a weekly Solos dining event and a group excursion (15 of 15). Its FAQ describes an all-inclusive rate covering meals and drinks, treatments, fitness and sports instruction, and its wellness page says every guest receives a therapeutic treatment each day; transfers cost extra, so it scores 8 of 15 on inclusions. Its packages page prices two programmes at a fixed $800 per person (15 of 15). It loses points on access, with a transfer price but no drive time (5 of 10), on cancellation terms, which appear only at booking after a three-night deposit (5 of 10), and on its clinic, whose Ayurvedic doctors are not named (5 of 10).

Rancho La Puerta, family-owned and operated since 1940, publishes the most complete price for one person of any retreat in the index. Its rates page lists the Ranchero Solo casita, for single occupancy, at $5,950 a week in regular season and $6,150 in high season, which runs to 13 November 2026 (about €5,214 and €5,390), including round-trip transport from San Diego airport, three meals a day, group classes, hikes and evening programmes (15 of 15 on prices, 10 of 10 on access). That is $500 more than the $5,450 each person pays to share a Ranchera, so it scores 15 of 25 on solo pricing, not 25. Its dining page describes dinner as "a shared seated experience where guests come together" (15 of 15), and its FAQ a first-aid department with staff physicians by day and a volunteer physician or nurse at night, none named (5 of 10). Its cancellation policy is the most detailed we read: a one-night deposit, a $500 fee with 15 to 29 days' notice, $1,000 within 14 days, and an optional $200 waiver that reduces the fees (10 of 10). Spa treatments are not included (8 of 15).

3. Kamalaya: 70/100

Kamalaya says in its FAQ that it is "an ideal place to come alone", with many guests visiting on their own, and keeps a Community Table for guests who want company at dinner (15 of 15). Its programme pages publish full prices valid to 31 March 2027: Relax & Renew costs THB 44,826 for three nights (about €1,180) and THB 89,843 for eight (about €2,365), excluding accommodation, and includes lunch and dinner, a wellness consultation, a set number of treatments and two airport transfers (15 of 15 on prices and inclusions, 10 of 10 on access). Its cancellation terms are published: 50% within 21 days of arrival and 100% within seven, and 50% within 45 days for stays from 20 December to 11 January (10 of 10). It scores nothing on solo pricing, because it publishes no room rate, and 5 of 10 on medical oversight: its about page counts western medical doctors among more than 100 practitioners but names none. First-time guests must book a programme of at least three nights.

4. SHA Wellness Clinic: 63/100

SHA Wellness Clinic, at Carrer del Verderol 5 in L'Albir, is the only European retreat above our bar. Its homepage names its medical leads, among them Dr Mariel Silva, Medical Services Director for SHA Spain (10 of 10). Its Rebalance & Energize page prices the health programme at €625 a night per guest from four nights, and lists a full-board meal plan, diagnostics, more than ten daily group activities and a VIP round-trip transfer (15 of 15 on prices and inclusions, 8 of 15 on community). Its booking policy refunds cancellations made at least 14 days ahead, less a 3% charge, and charges 50% after that, against a 50% deposit (10 of 10). Its FAQ gives airport distances rather than drive times (5 of 10). It loses all 25 solo-pricing points: accommodation is not included in the programme price, and no room rate is published.

Which wellness retreats were assessed but not ranked?

Eleven retreats scored below the 60-point pass mark, from Ananda (41) and Lanserhof Tegernsee (31) down to Clinique La Prairie and Six Senses Douro Valley at 5 each, and Vana could not be read; none of the 11 publishes a price for one person, and nine publish no current price at all. Most also lose points on cancellation terms and transfers.

2 · Read the cancellation terms before paying the deposit. Kamalaya charges 50% within 21 days and 100% within seven; SHA refunds up to 14 days ahead, less 3%; Rancho La Puerta charges $500 with 15 to 29 days' notice and $1,000 within 14, less with its $200 waiver; The BodyHoliday takes full payment 56 days before arrival and shows its terms only at booking.

3 · Price the airport transfer for one. Rancho La Puerta includes the San Diego round trip, Kamalaya's programmes include two transfers and SHA's a VIP transfer; The BodyHoliday charges $99 per couple for its standard transfer and publishes no price for one person.
