Travel Intelligence · Behind the Premium Card 2026
By Richard J. · written from Valencia3 cards, 3 benefits mappedVerified 2 October 2026
Behind the three best-known premium travel cards, other companies deliver much of what the annual fee pays for: Collinson runs both lounge networks on the Chase Sapphire Reserve (Priority Pass, and the Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club through its subsidiary Airport Dimensions), an AIG company underwrites the Sapphire Reserve's travel cover, two Chubb companies underwrite the Capital One Venture X's, and American Express keeps the most in-house, with its own Centurion Lounges and cover underwritten by its own AMEX Assurance Company. The page maps lounges, travel insurance and concierge for each card, names the company behind each, and says what that changes when you need to use it.

On the Amex Platinum, American Express runs the Centurion Lounges and its own insurer underwrites the cover; on the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Collinson runs both lounge networks and AIG underwrites the cover; on the Capital One Venture X, Capital One runs its own lounges, Collinson runs Priority Pass and Chubb underwrites the cover. Priority Pass, owned by Collinson, is the one company present on all three cards.
| Card | Lounges and who runs them | Travel insurance underwriter | Concierge |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Platinum Card from American Express | Centurion Lounges (American Express); Priority Pass (Collinson); Plaza Premium, Delta Sky Club on Delta flights, Escape | AMEX Assurance Company, an American Express company | Platinum Concierge, under the American Express name; no outside provider named on the pages read |
| Chase Sapphire Reserve | Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club (Airport Dimensions, a Collinson company); Priority Pass (Collinson) | New Hampshire Insurance Company, an AIG company | Visa Infinite Concierge; Visa's US concierge contract went to Ten Lifestyle Group in its 2018 announcement |

The American Express network is the largest and the most in-house: the Global Lounge Collection lists 1,550+ lounges, with the Centurion Lounges run by American Express, while the Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club is designed and operated for Chase by Airport Dimensions, a Collinson company, and Capital One runs its own Capital One Lounges and Landings. All three add Priority Pass, which Collinson owns.
| Lounge brand | Run by | On which cards | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Centurion Lounge | American Express | Amex Platinum; Business Platinum; Delta Reserve on Delta flights | American Express terms |
| Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club | Airport Dimensions, a Collinson company | Chase Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business | JPMorgan Chase press release |
| Priority Pass | Collinson | All three cards, after enrolment | Priority Pass |
| Capital One Lounge and Capital One Landing | Capital One; no outside operator named on the pages read | Capital One Venture X and Venture X Business | AwardWallet |
The overlap has a practical result. A Priority Pass member, including an Amex Platinum cardholder, can use one visit a year at a US Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club, with guests charged US$75, as the lounge listing states, and during peak periods the lounge gives priority to Chase cardmembers. The Sapphire lounges, as LoungeReview put it, are run by the same company that owns Priority Pass. Our Airport Lounge Programme Index scores the networks themselves, and found Collinson also owns LoungeKey.
One company sits behind lounge access on every card here: Collinson. It owns Priority Pass, on the Amex Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve and Capital One Venture X, and through Airport Dimensions it operates Chase's own Sapphire lounges. At a Priority Pass lounge, the Priority Pass conditions of use and the lounge's own capacity limits apply, not the card issuer's terms. See our best credit cards for airport lounge access.
The travel insurance on these cards is written by insurers, not the banks: New Hampshire Insurance Company, an AIG company, on the Chase Sapphire Reserve; AMEX Assurance Company on the Amex Platinum; and, on the Capital One Venture X, Federal Insurance Company and Indemnity Insurance Company of North America, both Chubb companies, under Visa Infinite's guide. The underwriter is named in each card's guide to benefits, not on the card's sales page.
| Card | Underwriter named in the guide | Who handles the claim | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Sapphire Reserve | New Hampshire Insurance Company, an AIG company | The insurer's benefits administrator; trip cancellation claims must be started within 20 days | The Points Guy, Chase |
| The Platinum Card from American Express | AMEX Assurance Company | Not stated in the sources read | The Points Guy |
| Capital One Venture X | Federal Insurance Company (trip benefits) and Indemnity Insurance Company of North America (protection benefits), Chubb | Card Benefit Services; notify within 30 days at eclaimsline.com or 1-800-825-4062 | HelloSafe, citing the Visa Infinite guide |
Two details change how you claim. Writing up a cardholder's claim in 2019, Milenomics noted that the Sapphire Reserve cover is administered by the third-party insurer, not by Chase. The Venture X guide HelloSafe cites is dated 1 October 2021 and carries no emergency medical cover, so check the current guide before you travel. Card cover is no substitute for a full policy: see our travel insurance comparison. For flight delays inside the EU, compensation under EU261 is a separate claim from card cover: see AirHelp vs ClaimCompass vs Skycop vs Flightright.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Capital One Venture X share the same concierge, Visa Infinite Concierge, run by Visa through an outside provider, which Ten Lifestyle Group announced in 2018 as covering Visa Infinite and Visa Signature concierge with significant delivery in the US; the Amex Platinum's concierge carries the American Express name, and the pages read name no outside provider. Two cards with different annual fees can therefore put you through to the same concierge programme.
| Card | Concierge | Provider named | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chase Sapphire Reserve | Visa Infinite Concierge | Visa; Ten Lifestyle Group holds Visa concierge delivery in the US, per its 2018 announcement | Ten Lifestyle Group |
| Capital One Venture X | Visa Infinite Concierge | The same Visa programme | HelloSafe, Ten Lifestyle Group |
| The Platinum Card from American Express | Platinum Concierge | American Express; no outside provider named on the pages read | Frequent Miler |
Ten's announcement dates from 2018, so the provider behind Visa Infinite Concierge may have changed since; the card would not change with it. Our Lifestyle Concierge Index scores the concierge companies themselves, Ten among them.
1 · Read the guide to benefits, not the sales page. The insurer, the claims window and the exclusions are named only in the guide: 20 days to start a Chase trip cancellation claim, 30 days to notify a Venture X delay claim.
2 · Know whose rules apply at the lounge door. At a Priority Pass lounge the lounge's capacity rules apply; at a US Centurion Lounge, since 8 July 2026, a guest must share the cardmember's flight. Compare the cards in Amex Platinum vs Chase Sapphire Reserve.
3 · Ask the concierge for what a programme can deliver. A bank-branded concierge can be a shared programme run by a specialist, as Visa Infinite's is; see our Chase, American Express and Capital One travel card reviews for the rest of each card.
Four dated changes affect who delivers what. From 1 February 2026, guests of personal Capital One Venture X cardholders pay $35 per visit at Priority Pass lounges, and additional cardholders need a $125 pass for lounge access (AwardWallet). On 8 July 2026 American Express required Centurion Lounge guests to share the cardmember's flight and capped layover entry at five hours (InsideFlyer). From 1 October 2026 select Lufthansa lounges leave the Amex Global Lounge Collection (The Points Party). The Amex Platinum's fee stands at $895 after its 2025 refresh (Frequent Miler).
Airport Dimensions, a Collinson company, designs and operates the Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club network for JPMorgan Chase. Collinson also owns Priority Pass, so both lounge networks on the Chase Sapphire Reserve are run by Collinson companies.
Collinson owns Priority Pass. A Priority Pass membership comes with the Amex Platinum, the Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Capital One Venture X after enrolment, which makes Collinson the one company behind lounge access on all three cards.
New Hampshire Insurance Company, an AIG company, underwrites the Chase Sapphire Reserve's travel cover, according to the card's guide to benefits. Claims are handled by the insurer's benefits administrator, and trip cancellation claims must be started within 20 days.
AMEX Assurance Company, an American Express company, underwrites the travel cover on the Platinum Card from American Express, according to its guide to benefits. American Express also runs its own Centurion Lounges, so it keeps more of the card's benefits in-house than Chase or Capital One.
The Capital One Venture X carries Visa Infinite cover underwritten by two Chubb companies: Federal Insurance Company for trip benefits and Indemnity Insurance Company of North America for protection benefits, administered by Card Benefit Services. Delay claims are notified within 30 days at eclaimsline.com or 1-800-825-4062.
Both cards use Visa Infinite Concierge, a Visa programme. Ten Lifestyle Group announced in 2018 that it provides concierge for Visa Infinite and Visa Signature cardholders, with significant service delivery in the US. The Amex Platinum uses its own Platinum Concierge.
Yes, once a year. A Priority Pass member can use one visit per calendar year at one US Chase Sapphire Lounge by The Club, subject to availability, with guests and extra visits charged US$75. During peak periods the lounges give priority to Chase cardmembers.
From the insurer or its benefits administrator, not the bank. On the Chase Sapphire Reserve the cover is written by an AIG company; on the Capital One Venture X claims go through Card Benefit Services for Chubb. Each card's guide to benefits sets the deadline, such as 20 days for Chase trip cancellation and 30 days to notify a Venture X delay.
