Travel Intelligence · Card issuer records 2026
By Richard J. · written from ValenciaRecord score 57/100Verified 26 September 2026
Capital One scores 57/100 as a card issuer record, the lowest of the four: it publishes its lounge and insurance terms for the Venture X cards in full, but its own pricing documents omit the foreign transaction fee and carry no date, and J.D. Power's 2026 text does not rank it among the top three issuers. This record covers the issuer behind Capital One Venture X Rewards and Capital One Venture X Business, both US cards: who issues and regulates it, what it costs, what is in writing on lounges, insurance and help abroad, and what independent studies say. Which card is worth its fee is scored on our card pages, linked below.

Is this your company? Correct a fact. Capital One can correct any line of this record through the contact page. Corrections are logged with the previous value kept, and the score moves only if the evidence does.
Capital One scores 57 out of 100: strong marks for its lounge terms and its zero foreign transaction fee, held back by pricing documents that omit that fee and carry no date, an undated 2026 lounge change, and satisfaction evidence that rests on a Trustpilot 1.2. That is fourth, and last, of the four card issuers scored on this rubric, nine points behind Citi. Our premium cards page ranks the Venture X third of seven cards at 84 because it scores the card's value; this record scores the issuer, and what a cardholder can check before applying.
| Criterion | Points | Out of | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Benefits in writing | 21 | 25 | Capital One's Airport Lounge Terms give both cards' access to its Lounges, Landings and Priority Pass, the guest fees ($45, $25 for a child, $35 a Priority Pass guest), free guests after $75,000 of spend and the $125 fee for each extra cardholder (8 of 8). Guides to benefits for both cards name the insurers, Federal Insurance Company and Indemnity Insurance Company of North America, and the claims administrators, with limits and exclusions (8 of 8). Credit values, periods and conditions published (5 of 5). The February 2026 lounge changes carry no effective date on Capital One's pages, whose lounge terms say only "Last updated: July 8, 2026" (0 of 4). |
| Help abroad | 13 | 20 | Collect from abroad on 1-804-934-2001, with no hours on that page (3 of 7). "An emergency replacement and a cash advance" for a lost or stolen Venture X Business card, with no time (2 of 5). Visa Infinite Travel and Emergency Assistance, 1-800-825-4062 or collect 1-804-965-8071, "24 hours a day, 365 days a year" (5 of 5). A Cash Advance PIN "for emergencies while traveling" (3 of 3). |
| Fees in writing | 9 | 20 | The two terms documents give the $395 annual fee but neither the foreign transaction fee nor the $125 extra cardholder lounge fee, which appear only on product pages and the lounge terms (0 of 8). No foreign transaction fee on either card (6 of 6). No date or version, only "©2025 Capital One" (0 of 3). Rates and the late fee in the Venture X document; the business card is paid in full each month and its document states the late fee (3 of 3). |
| Satisfaction evidence | 4 | 20 | J.D. Power 2026 names only the top three issuers in its text and Capital One is not among them, so that line is n/r; the study puts the Venture X Rewards card second among premium cards, at 705, a card score that is not counted. ACSI publishes no credit card study for 2025 or 2026, so that line is n/r. Trustpilot 1.2 from 4,273 reviews (1 of 5). Rescaled from 1 of 5. |
| Regulation and dispute rights | 10 | 15 | Capital One, N.A. (5 of 5). No body beyond Capital One named on its contact, feedback or dispute pages or in its terms (0 of 5). "$0 liability for unauthorized charges", and a "Your Billing Rights" notice in the Venture X terms (5 of 5). |
| Total | 57 | 100 | Card issuer record score, 26 September 2026. |
Capital One publishes its lounge and Priority Pass guest fees in one Airport Lounge Terms page for both cards, and its guides to benefits name the insurer and claims administrator with limits for each. What it does not publish, on any page our reader could open, is a single dated pricing document carrying the foreign transaction fee and the extra-cardholder fee alongside the annual fee, an effective date for its February 2026 lounge changes, or a complaint route beyond Capital One itself.

The record holds 19 facts about Capital One, each with its source and grade. Grade A means the company's own site or terms; grade B means a regulator, court, satisfaction study, review platform or major press; grade C means a secondary source not confirmed elsewhere. Every line was read on 26 September 2026 unless its source says otherwise.

Capital One, N.A., a national bank supervised by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, issues both Venture X cards; its parent, Capital One Financial Corporation, has its head office at 1680 Capital One Drive in McLean, Virginia.
Capital One's company page names Richard D. Fairbank as chairman and chief executive. The OCC, which supervises national banks, entered into a 2014 agreement with Capital One, N.A. after examining the bank. Capital One Financial Corporation completed its acquisition of Discover Financial Services on 18 May 2025.
This record covers US cards only. Capital One's company page also names Canada and the UK among the markets it serves; neither issues the Venture X cards in this record.
Two US cards: Capital One Venture X Rewards and Capital One Venture X Business, both $395 a year, with no foreign transaction fee on either. Read from each card's product page and its own terms document; neither carries a date.
| Card | Annual fee | Extra cards | Foreign transaction fee | Rates and penalty fees |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Capital One Venture X Rewards | $395 | $125 a year for each additional cardholder's lounge access; the card itself is free | None | Purchase APR "19.49% - 28.49% variable" on the card page; its own application terms give "19.99%, 25.24% or 29.24%"; late fee up to $40 |
| Venture X Business | $395 | Free employee cards; $125 a year for each additional cardholder's lounge access | None | Paid in full each statement, so no purchase APR; late fee 2.99% of the unpaid minimum payment |
Capital One's Venture X page lists a $300 annual Capital One Travel credit, 10,000 anniversary bonus miles from the first account anniversary, up to $120 every four years toward Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, up to $100 a booking on Premier Collection hotels and up to $50 on Lifestyle Collection hotels, and cell phone protection to $800 after a $50 deductible. The Venture X Business business page adds the same $300 travel credit and 10,000 miles for its own account. Neither card page lists airline or hotel elite status. Whether the credits cover the fee is worked through on are premium travel credit cards worth it, and the seven flagship cards are ranked on value on our premium travel cards page.
Capital One publishes its lounge and Priority Pass guest fees in one Airport Lounge Terms page covering both cards, including the $75,000 spend threshold for free guests at its own Lounges and Landings.
| Card | Lounges | Guests | Extra cardholders |
|---|---|---|---|
| Venture X Rewards | Capital One Lounges and Landings, and Priority Pass (enrolment), more than 1,300 lounges worldwide | $45 a guest aged 18 or over, $25 a child aged 17 or under, free under 2, at Lounges and Landings; two free guests at Lounges and one at Landings after $75,000 of spend in a calendar year; $35 a Priority Pass guest, with no free Priority Pass guests at any spend level | No complimentary lounge access unless the primary cardholder pays $125 a year for each additional cardholder |
| Venture X Business | As Venture X Rewards | As Venture X Rewards at Lounges and Landings; two free Priority Pass guests a visit with no spend condition, then $35 each | Free employee cards; the same $125 a year for lounge access for each additional cardholder |
Capital One's own count, in a learn-grow article dated 30 April 2026, gives five Lounges, at Dallas Fort Worth, Denver, Las Vegas, JFK and Washington Dulles, with Charlotte planned, and two Landings, at Reagan National and LaGuardia. Press reports date new guest and additional-cardholder fees to 1 February 2026; no Capital One page we read carries that date, and its lounge terms give only "Last updated: July 8, 2026". Our airport lounge programme index does not list Capital One Lounges among its ranked networks; how the Venture X cards score for lounge access against Amex, Chase and Citi is on credit cards with airport lounge access.
Both Venture X cards carry trip cancellation, trip delay and lost luggage cover underwritten by Federal Insurance Company and Indemnity Insurance Company of North America, in guides to benefits Capital One publishes before you apply.
| Cover | Limit | Underwriter | Terms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trip cancellation and interruption | $2,000 per person on Venture X; $3,000 per person on Venture X Business | Chubb companies named in each guide | Venture X guide; Venture X Business guide |
| Trip delay | $500 after a delay of more than six hours | Chubb companies named in each guide | Venture X guide; Venture X Business guide |
| Lost or delayed luggage | $3,000 a covered trip; Venture X Business adds baggage delay at $100 a day for 3 days or $300 in total | Chubb companies named in each guide | Venture X guide; Venture X Business guide |
| Auto rental collision damage waiver | Actual cash value, for vehicles up to $75,000 MSRP | Chubb companies named in each guide | Venture X guide; Venture X Business guide |
Both guides add travel accident cover of $1,000,000 and list exclusions; claims are administered by cbsi Card Benefit Services. A card's delay cover reimburses expenses; it does not replace compensation an airline may owe, which is set out in the EU261 claim company comparison.
Capital One gives a collect number for card service from abroad without stated hours, and a 24-hour Visa Infinite assistance line, but states no time for a card replacement abroad on the personal Venture X.
| Need | What Capital One publishes | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Card lost or stolen, or an account problem | Collect at 1-804-934-2001, free to call from outside the US; no hours stated | Collect call support page |
| A replacement card | "Expect a replacement card to arrive in about 4-6 business days"; a virtual card number for online use while a replacement is in transit; nothing on delivery abroad for Venture X. Venture X Business: "an emergency replacement and a cash advance", with no time stated | Lost card page; Venture X Business page |
| A medical, legal or travel emergency | Visa Infinite Travel and Emergency Assistance, 1-800-825-4062 or collect 1-804-965-8071, "24 hours a day, 365 days a year" | Venture X guide to benefits |
| Emergency cash | A Cash Advance PIN "for emergencies while traveling", requested online; Venture X Business separately offers "a cash advance" with a lost or stolen card, no time stated | Travelling with your card page |
Capital One's travelling page adds: "Make a collect call from a landline, and we'll accept the charges." Which cards in your wallet charge nothing to use abroad is compared on travel money cards compared.
Capital One says cardholders have $0 liability for unauthorised charges, and prints a billing-rights notice in the Venture X application terms, but names no complaint route beyond Capital One itself.
The zero-liability line is on Capital One's own fraud protection page: "Capital One and other issuers provide $0 liability for unauthorized charges." The Venture X application terms carry a "Your Billing Rights" notice under the Fair Credit Billing Act; the Venture X Business account terms, read in full, carry no such notice. Neither the contact page, the feedback page nor the fraud and disputes page names a route beyond Capital One; the general consumer card agreement links the CFPB only as an educational resource. A route exists whatever the pages say: the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau takes credit card complaints online or on (855) 411-2372 and sends them to the company for a response.
J.D. Power's 2026 release names only its top three issuers in text, and Capital One is not among them, though it scores the Venture X Rewards card second among premium cards; Capital One's Trustpilot listing holds 1.2 out of 5 from 4,273 reviews.
The J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Credit Card Satisfaction Study, published on 13 August 2026, names American Express (668), Chase (635) and Bank of America (630) as its top three issuers, against an overall average of 613; the rest of its ranking is a chart our reader cannot open. The same release scores the Venture X Rewards card 705, second among premium cards. The American Customer Satisfaction Index does not name Capital One. The Trustpilot listing for capitalone.com holds 1.2 out of 5 from 4,273 reviews, claimed in December 2024, 89% of them one star. What each kind of review can and cannot tell a buyer is in who reviews the reviewers.
The Venture X cards suit a traveller who wants one flat-rate rewards card and a simple lounge network, rather than a category-based card with hotel or airline status.
Capital One markets Venture X as a flat-rate card: its own pages promise "2X Miles on all other purchases, every day" plus higher rates on hotels, rental cars and flights booked through Capital One Travel, paired with the $300 annual travel credit and 10,000 anniversary miles that offset most of the $395 fee. Venture X Business extends the same proposition to a business account, with free employee cards.
Capital One suits less well a cardholder chasing hotel elite status, which neither Venture X card publishes and which is compared on Hilton Diamond vs Marriott Titanium vs Hyatt Globalist, or a family that brings guests to a Capital One Lounge without reaching $75,000 of spend, who pay $45 an adult each visit. It also suits less well a cardholder who wants a dated pricing document: Citi's pricing table carries a version number and Amex dates its agreements, as the Citi record and the American Express record show. None of the four issuers names a complaint route beyond itself.
Which card, which lounge network, where to book with the travel credit and what to do when a flight goes wrong are the next decisions, and each has its own page here.
| Decision | What matters | Where we cover it |
|---|---|---|
| Which premium card | The flat-rate travel credit against a category-based card's bonus categories. | Best premium travel credit cards; Are premium travel credit cards worth it |
| Lounges | Capital One's own network is smaller than Centurion or Sapphire; guest fees apply below $75,000 of spend. | Credit cards with lounge access; Airport lounge programme index |
| Hotel status | Venture X carries none; cards that grant status outright are ranked separately. | Best credit cards for hotel elite status; Hilton Diamond vs Marriott Titanium vs Hyatt Globalist |
| Where to book hotels | The Premier and Lifestyle Collection credits apply only to a Capital One Travel booking. | Direct vs Amex FHR vs Virtuoso; Luxury hotel brand hierarchy |
| Card costs abroad | Neither Venture X card charges a foreign transaction fee; its assistance line and collect number differ from other issuers'. | Travel money cards compared |
| A delayed or cancelled flight | Card delay cover reimburses expenses; compensation from the airline is a separate claim. | US flight delay compensation; the EU261 claim company comparison |
Capital One appears on four Uncompromised Travel pages with a card or lounge position, and holds numbered ranks on two of them.
| Page | Position | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Best premium travel credit cards 2026 | Venture X 3rd of 7, 84/100 | Scores the card's value; matches the $395 fee and the $300 travel credit |
| Credit cards with airport lounge access | Venture X 7th of 7, 53/100; Venture X Business 5th, 68/100 | Gives Venture X Business "2 free after $75k spend" for guests; Capital One's own terms give it two free Priority Pass guests a visit with no spend condition, and put the $75,000 threshold on its own Lounges and Landings instead; the page is being corrected |
| Airport lounge programme index | Not listed | Does not name Capital One Lounges or Landings among its ranked or assessed networks |
| Are premium travel credit cards worth it | Venture X discussed, no score | Weighs the $300 travel credit and 10,000 anniversary miles against the fee |
The other three issuers on our card pages, Chase, American Express and Citi, are scored on the same rubric.
| Company | Record score | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| Chase | 71 | Nine Sapphire Lounges with two free guests and no spend threshold, and billing rights in writing; no card service number from abroad on its pages |
| American Express | 68 | Centurion Lounge guest fees, dated card agreements and trip insurance terms that list every card; no billing-rights statement in its agreements |
| Citi | 66 | One card in scope, the Strata Elite at $595; a 24-hour collect line from abroad, but no assistance service |
Six things a cardholder would want could not be found or verified for Capital One. Supplying a verifiable source closes a gap; it changes the evidence, never the rubric.

Capital One, N.A., a national bank supervised by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, issues Capital One Venture X Rewards and Capital One Venture X Business. Its parent is Capital One Financial Corporation of McLean, Virginia. It scores 57 out of 100 on this record.
No. Capital One's fees page states: "None of Capital One's US-issued credit cards include this type of fee." Neither the Venture X nor the Venture X Business product page names one.
$45 for each guest aged 18 or over and $25 for each child aged 17 or under, free under 2, at Capital One Lounges and Landings, unless the account has spent $75,000 on purchases in the calendar year, which allows two free guests a visit at Lounges and one at Landings. A Priority Pass guest costs $35 a visit on Venture X; Venture X Business gets two free Priority Pass guests a visit, then $35.
The collect number from outside the US is 1-804-934-2001, with no hours stated. For a travel or medical emergency, the Visa Infinite Travel and Emergency Assistance line is 1-800-825-4062, or collect 1-804-965-8071, "24 hours a day, 365 days a year".
Trip cancellation and interruption cover up to $2,000 per person and trip delay cover of $500 after a delay of more than six hours, underwritten by Federal Insurance Company and Indemnity Insurance Company of North America. Venture X Business carries a $3,000 trip cancellation limit and adds a baggage delay benefit.
Yes. Both Venture X cards give their primary cardholders access to Capital One Lounges, Capital One Landings and Priority Pass. At Capital One Lounges and Landings a guest costs $45 for an adult and $25 for a child unless the account has spent $75,000 in the calendar year; a Priority Pass guest costs $35 a visit on the personal Venture X at any level of spend.
J.D. Power's 2026 study names American Express, Chase and Bank of America as its top three issuers, and Capital One is not among them; the rest of its ranking is a chart. The same study scores the Venture X Rewards card second among premium cards, at 705. Capital One's Trustpilot listing holds 1.2 out of 5 from 4,273 reviews.
Capital One's contact, feedback and dispute pages name no route beyond Capital One. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau takes credit card complaints online at consumerfinance.gov/complaint or on (855) 411-2372.
On this issuer record Citi scores 66 and Capital One 57: Citi publishes a versioned pricing table and a 24-hour collect number, while Capital One's pricing documents omit the foreign transaction fee and carry no date. Card against card, the Venture X and the Strata Elite are both ranked on our premium cards page.
