Stays · Hotel brand records 2026
By Richard J. · written from ValenciaRecord score 96/100Verified 26 September 2026
Aman is first of the twenty brands on our luxury hotel brand hierarchy, at 96 out of 100: 36 hotels and resorts, owned and run by Vlad Doronin and registered as Aman Group S.à r.l. in Baar, Switzerland, with no points programme and no room rates published outside its booking engine. This record is the evidence file behind that score. It sets out what Aman publishes about itself, how Forbes Travel Guide and the MICHELIN Guide rate the Aman hotels we could read, what could not be found, and where our other pages and Aman's own figures disagree.

Is this your company? Correct a fact. Aman can correct any line of this record through the contact page. Corrections are logged with the previous value kept, and the score moves only if the evidence does.
Aman scores 96 out of 100, first of twenty brands: full marks for rate band, consistency and service depth, 19 of 20 for privacy and scale, and 12 of 15 for food and drink. The points are the luxury hotel brand hierarchy's of 7 September 2026, carried unchanged; under each criterion is what we could read on 26 September 2026. None of it contradicts a figure the hierarchy prints, though Aman's home page gives two different country totals, and the three Forbes Travel Guide ratings we could read are all Four-Star.
| Criterion | Points | Out of | Evidence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rate band | 20 | 20 | No Aman page we opened prints an entry-room rate outside its booking engine; its offers page lists perks, not prices. The hierarchy places Aman in its ultra-luxury band, EUR 1,500 to 5,000 or more a night, and our Amex FHR guide uses Aman Tokyo at USD 2,200 a night. |
| Consistency across the portfolio | 25 | 25 | Aman's pages agree on 36 hotels and resorts but not on countries: its home page says 20 in one place and 21 in another. Forbes Travel Guide rates all three Aman hotels we could read Four-Star (Amangiri, Aman Venice, Aman Tokyo). The MICHELIN Guide lists seven Aman hotels with Keys: Three at Aman Venice, Amanemu and Aman New York, Two at Aman Tokyo, Aman Kyoto, Aman Le Mélézin and Aman Nai Lert Bangkok; Amanpuri is not in its Phuket listing. |
| Service depth | 20 | 20 | Aman states its aim as service 'peerless in every way' but publishes no staff numbers, butler model, room sizes or check-in style on any page we opened. The six-to-one staff ratio on our own Aman philosophy page has no Aman source we could open. |
| Food and drink | 12 | 15 | Aman's dining page names restaurants including Arva, Musashi by Aman, Taka-An at Aman Kyoto and Hiori at Aman Nai Lert Bangkok, and claims no Michelin stars; the MICHELIN Guide links a restaurant, Arva, from its Aman Tokyo and Aman Venice entries. No Michelin-starred Aman restaurant was found. |
| Privacy and scale | 19 | 20 | Aman New York has 83 suites (Aman) and Aman Tokyo 84 rooms and suites (Forbes Travel Guide); counts for Amanpuri, Aman Venice, Amangiri, Amanzoe and Aman Kyoto could not be read. |
| Total | 96 | 100 | Luxury hotel brand hierarchy score of 7 September 2026, carried unchanged; evidence read 26 September 2026. |
Aman publishes who owns and runs it, where the company is registered, how many hotels it has and which it will open next. It publishes little else a guest could check before booking: no rates, no staff numbers, no room count on most hotel pages and no awards page. The outside ratings we could read are steady rather than top of the scale: Forbes Travel Guide rates Amangiri, Aman Venice and Aman Tokyo Four-Star, and the MICHELIN Guide gives three Aman hotels its highest grade, Three Keys: Aman Venice, Amanemu and Aman New York.

The record holds 18 facts about Aman, each with its source and grade. Grade A means the company's own site or terms; grade B means a rating body such as Forbes Travel Guide or the MICHELIN Guide, a registry or major press; grade C means a secondary source not confirmed elsewhere. Every line was read on 26 September 2026 unless its source says otherwise.

Aman is owned and run by Vlad Doronin, whom Aman's leadership page lists as "Owner, Chairman and CEO"; the company named in its legal notice is Aman Group S.à r.l., registered at Grabenstrasse 17 in Baar, Switzerland.
The legal notice gives the Swiss registration number CHE-198.414.213 and a contact office at 75 Grosvenor Street in Mayfair, London, but names no directors. The leadership page lists eleven executives below Doronin, from a chief investment officer to managing directors for Asia Pacific, Japan, Europe and the Americas. No stock listing appears on any page we opened. Aman dates itself to 1988, "when Amanpuri opened in Phuket, Thailand", and its about page and group page name no founder.
Two of our own pages go further than Aman does. Our four-brand duel names PIF and Cain International among Aman's investors, and our branded residences index says the owner of Amanyara is suing Aman and its chairman. Neither is stated on an Aman page, and the index links no source for the suit, so this record treats both as unconfirmed until a source can be opened.
Aman says 36: its about page counts "36 hotels, resorts and residence developments in 21 countries", though its home page gives 20 countries in one place and 21 in another. The destinations page marks one hotel newly open, one closed until it reopens and three with an opening year, all read on 26 September 2026.
| Hotel | Where | Status on aman.com |
|---|---|---|
| Amanvari | East Cape, Mexico | Now open |
| Amangani | Jackson Hole, United States | Reopening soon |
| Aman Miami Beach | Miami Beach, United States | Opening 2028 |
| Aman Beverly Hills | Beverly Hills, United States | Opening 2028 |
| Aman Niseko | Hokkaido, Japan | Opening 2030 |
Aman's own count takes in residence developments, so it is wider than a count of hotels taking guests tonight; the hierarchy prints the same 36 as "hotels and resorts". Our Aman alternatives page still says "roughly 35", which goes to its next update. The group page adds a second hotel brand, Janu, and says "Aman at Sea" will follow; Aman's first ship, Amangati, and its fares are set out in hotel brands at sea, and its residences are scored in the branded residences index. Whether a hotel's first season is worth the risk is weighed in should you book a brand-new luxury hotel.
The three Aman hotels we could read on Forbes Travel Guide are all Four-Star, and the MICHELIN Guide lists seven Aman hotels with Keys: Three at Aman Venice, Amanemu and Aman New York, Two at four more.
| Hotel | Forbes Travel Guide | MICHELIN Keys | Rooms |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aman Venice | Four-Star | Three | Not read |
| Amanemu, Japan | Not read | Three | Not read |
| Aman Tokyo | Four-Star | Two | 84 rooms and suites |
| Aman Kyoto | Not read | Two | Not read |
| Amangiri, Utah | Four-Star | Not read | Not read |
| Aman New York | Not read | Three | 83 suites |
| Aman Le Mélézin, Courchevel | Not read | Two | Not read |
| Aman Nai Lert Bangkok | Not read | Two | Not read |
| Amanpuri, Phuket | Not read | Not listed | Not read |
Forbes Travel Guide grades hotels Recommended, Four-Star or Five-Star, and the MICHELIN Guide gives one to three Keys to the hotels it selects; neither listing we read prints the year of the award. Aman keeps no awards page (its awards address returned nothing), so every rating here comes from the rating body's own page: Amangiri, Aman Venice and Aman Tokyo on Forbes Travel Guide, and the MICHELIN Guide's hotel listings for Italy, Japan, New York, Courchevel, Bangkok and Phuket, which also link a restaurant, Arva, from the Venice and Tokyo entries. Amanpuri, Aman's first resort, does not appear in the Phuket listing.
Aman runs no points programme and prints no adviser or card-programme perks on any page we opened; it sells through its own site and reservations.
Aman's offers page lists perks hotel by hotel rather than nightly prices, and its terms and travel-adviser pages returned no content to our reader. Our Booking.com vs direct audit of 17 July 2026 found that "Aman does not distribute its hotels through Booking.com". Our Direct vs Amex FHR vs Virtuoso guide prices three nights at Aman Tokyo at USD 2,200 a night and says upgrades are often confirmed for Aman through a preferred partner; Fine Hotels + Resorts comes with the Amex Platinum, set against its rival in Amex Platinum vs Chase Sapphire Reserve.
For a traveller who collects points, that is the trade: an Aman stay earns status in no chain programme. The chain programmes are compared in Hilton Diamond vs Marriott Titanium vs Hyatt Globalist and the hotel status match guide, and the case for booking the best hotel over the best points is made in you do not owe any brand your loyalty.
Aman suits a traveller who wants small, quiet hotels and will pay for them without points or a published price; it suits less well anyone who needs a rate before enquiring, or status that carries to other hotels.
Aman says it takes "its name from the Sanskrit-derived word for 'peace'" and aims for service "peerless in every way", in the words of its about page. Its city hotels are small by city standards, 83 suites in New York and 84 rooms and suites in Tokyo; how those cities rank for a short stay is in best city break destinations. It also runs Aman Le Mélézin in Courchevel 1850, and Courchevel's place among the winter resorts is in best ski destinations.
When Aman is full, the nearest substitutes are in Aman alternatives; how its service compares with Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Ritz-Carlton and St. Regis is in ultra-luxury hotel service, compared, and what a hotel front desk records about a guest is in hotel check-in privacy.
Which brand, where to stay when Aman is full, how to book and whether to wait for a new hotel are the next decisions, and each has its own page here.
| Decision | What matters | Where we cover it |
|---|---|---|
| Which brand | Twenty brands scored on the same five criteria, and four set side by side. | Luxury hotel brand hierarchy; Aman vs Six Senses vs Rosewood vs Belmond |
| When Aman is full | Smaller hotels in the same places, and how far ahead to book. | Aman alternatives |
| How to book | Direct, an adviser or a card programme; the perks differ. | Direct vs Amex FHR vs Virtuoso; Booking.com vs direct |

Aman appears on eleven Uncompromised Travel pages with a position or a figure, and holds a numbered rank on one of them.
| Page | Position | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Luxury hotel brand hierarchy | No. 1 of 20, 96/100 | Prints 36 hotels and resorts in 21 countries and the owner as Aman Group (Vlad Doronin), as Aman's about page does |
| Aman vs Six Senses vs Rosewood vs Belmond | 96, the only top-tier brand of the four | Says "no portfolio count published" and names PIF and Cain International among investors; Aman publishes a count, 36, and names no investors |
| Aman alternatives | No score | Says "roughly 35 properties"; Aman says 36 |
| Aman service philosophy | No score, no date line | States a six-to-one staff ratio, a 68% repeat rate and an average stay above USD 5,000, with no Aman source we could open |
| Branded residences index | 23/100, scoring residences | Reports a suit by Amanyara's owner, dated 27 August 2026 in its text, with no source linked |
| Hotel brands at sea | No score | Amangati, 47 suites for 94 guests, arriving in spring 2027 |
| Direct vs Amex FHR vs Virtuoso | Booking route, no score | Prices three nights at Aman Tokyo at USD 2,200 a night |
| Booking.com vs direct | Not priced | Aman does not sell its hotels on Booking.com |
| Ultra-luxury hotel service, compared | No score, no date line | Gives Aman "from ~$1,200/night"; the page no longer matches its address, which names Ritz-Carlton |
| Should you book a brand-new luxury hotel? | No score | Says "Aman has the strongest opening playbook in luxury" |
| You do not owe any brand your loyalty | No score | Repeats the 68% repeat-guest figure without a source |
The nearest alternatives on the same rubric are the other ultra-luxury brands: Cheval Blanc, Oetker Hotels, Maybourne and Soneva. Six Senses, Rosewood and Belmond are set against Aman on our four-brand duel.
| Brand | Score | How it differs |
|---|---|---|
| Cheval Blanc | 93 | Six Maisons under LVMH; the only brand in the top five with full marks for food and drink |
| Oetker Hotels | 92 | Twelve hotels in seven countries, from Le Bristol Paris to Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc, owned by the Oetker family |
| Maybourne | 91 | Six hotels, four of them in London; four rated Forbes Five-Star |
| Soneva | 88 | Three Maldives resorts, two of them with Three MICHELIN Keys |
Seven things a guest would want could not be found or verified for Aman. Supplying a verifiable source closes a gap; it changes the evidence, never the rubric.

Vlad Doronin, whom Aman's leadership page lists as Owner, Chairman and CEO. The company is Aman Group S.à r.l., registered in Baar, Switzerland, under CHE-198.414.213, and no stock listing was found. It scores 96 out of 100 on this record, first of twenty brands.
Aman says 36: its about page counts "36 hotels, resorts and residence developments in 21 countries", while its home page gives 20 countries in one place and 21 in another. Aman Miami Beach and Aman Beverly Hills are listed to open in 2028 and Aman Niseko in 2030.
No. No points programme appears on any Aman page we opened, and an Aman stay earns status in no chain programme. Perks come from booking direct or through advisers and card programmes.
Aman prints no rates outside its booking engine. Our luxury hotel brand hierarchy places it in the ultra-luxury band, EUR 1,500 to 5,000 or more a night, and our Amex FHR guide prices Aman Tokyo at USD 2,200 a night.
The MICHELIN Guide gives Three Keys, its highest grade, to Aman Venice, Amanemu in Japan and Aman New York, and Two Keys to Aman Tokyo, Aman Kyoto, Aman Le Mélézin in Courchevel and Aman Nai Lert Bangkok. Amanpuri is not in its Phuket listing, and the listings print no year.
Not the three we could read: Forbes Travel Guide rates Amangiri, Aman Venice and Aman Tokyo Four-Star. Pages for other Aman hotels could not be opened.
Aman New York has 83 suites and Aman Tokyo 84 rooms and suites. Aman publishes no room count for most of its resorts.
Amanpuri in Phuket, Thailand, which opened in 1988; Aman dates the brand from that opening.
Aman's legal notice gives Grabenstrasse 17, 6340 Baar, Switzerland, with a contact office at 75 Grosvenor Street in Mayfair, London.
On our luxury hotel brand hierarchy Aman scores 96 and Cheval Blanc 93. Aman leads on consistency, 25 against 22, and on privacy and scale, 19 against 17; Cheval Blanc leads on food and drink, 15 against 12.
