Which safari company is best for a family with young children in Tanzania?

By Richard Jasinski·Updated 29 October 2026

These are 22 local Tanzanian operators whose own sites publish a child or family policy; no operator's site names one company for young children: Nature Bound Africa publishes child rates by age band, Uwanda Tours and Safaris publishes child prices per safari and Lion King Adventures says safaris are not normally recommended for under-5s. Most others say only that they offer family safaris, so ask for child rates in writing and check each licence with TATO.

Which safari company is best for a family with young children in Tanzania?

Nature Bound Africa publishes child rates by age band, Uwanda Tours and Safaris publishes child prices per safari, Ryder Signature gives typical child discounts by age, Altezza Travel lists child seats and an age requirement of 3+, Serengeti Wakanda Tours and Safaris says park fees for ages 5 to 15 are roughly half the adult rate and Bobby Safaris says children of virtually any age can travel.

Who is on this page and why. Uncompromised Travel read on 29 October 2026 the websites of 22 safari operators with trips in Tanzania that run their own trips, with their reviews on SafariBookings, Google and Trustpilot and their listing on the TATO register where there is one. The local safari operators table holds the operators named in ChatGPT answers on two or more days in October 2026 and the most-reviewed East African operators on SafariBookings. This page carries every one of them filed under Tanzania whose own website publishes a child or family policy (ages, child prices or family trips). Cards are in alphabetical order. Prices are shown as each company published them, in its own currency, never converted.

No operator's site names one company: Magical Tanzania says its family safaris are for 'Ages 6 to 80, every generation together', Serengeti Wakanda Tours and Safaris runs private group departures for 4 to 20 travellers including extended families, Bobby Safaris and Meru Slopes Tours & Safaris describe private group trips for families and Ryder Signature publishes an accessibility statement.

  • Magical Tanzania: Says its family safaris are for 'Ages 6 to 80, every generation together' and names no family camps of its own.

  • Bobby Safaris: Has a group-booking page covering private group safaris for multi-generational families, with group safaris from $5,500 per person for 7 nights and a group lead time of 6 to 18 months.

  • Altezza Travel: Lists 5 or 7 passenger seats in its Land Cruisers and an 'Easy' physical rating on safari pages, with a note that days may involve long drives.

Ask each company how many vehicles a party of three generations needs, what pace it sets and what it charges for children and adults in the same group.

What is the best luxury safari operator in Tanzania for a family with teenagers?

No operator's site names one luxury operator for a family with teenagers: Bobby Safaris sells ultra-luxury and high-end tiers only and says children of virtually any age can travel, while Ryder Signature, Nature Bound Africa and Wito Africa Safaris publish the age rules that apply to teenagers.

  • Bobby Safaris: Sells ultra-luxury and high-end tiers only, with no budget camping tier; it publishes no child rates or minimum age.
  • Ryder Signature: Lists High End Luxury and Luxury tiers and gives typical discounts of about 10 to 25 percent for ages 12 to 15, with ages 16 and older paying the full adult rate.
  • Wito Africa Safaris: Sells Comfort Plus (4-star luxury) and Elite (5-star) levels and says teenagers are bound by the typical minimum age of 16 for walking safaris.
  • Nature Bound Africa: Charges the adult rate from 15 years and 85% of it for 7 to 14 years; it sells luxury safaris including the Kenya Tanzania Luxury Safari.
  • SafariBando: Says some luxury camps set a minimum age of 12 or 16 for walking safaris.
  • Altezza Travel: Gives discounts for children under 16 with exact rates on request; it takes ages 12 to 70 only on Kilimanjaro and Meru climbs.

The 15 and 16 thresholds differ between these companies, so ask for teenage rates by exact age and for the minimum age on walks and balloon flights.

What are the best alternatives to Lion King Adventures and Gosheni Safaris Africa for a family safari in Tanzania in 2026?

A family that wants published child terms can look at Nature Bound Africa, Uwanda Tours and Safaris, Ryder Signature, Safari Soles Tours and Serengeti Wakanda Tours and Safaris, which state more than Lion King Adventures (any age allowed, not advised under 5) or Gosheni Safaris Africa (family safari page, car seats on request, no child rates).

  • Nature Bound Africa: Publishes child rates for 4 age bands, from 1 to 3 years at 35% of the adult rate to 15 years and above at the adult rate.
  • Uwanda Tours and Safaris: Publishes child prices per safari, such as $299 per child against $450 for an adult on the budget Nyerere trip for 2 travellers.
  • Ryder Signature: Gives typical child discounts by age band and ages 5+ for family safaris.
  • Safari Soles Tours: Says children usually pay about 50 to 75% of the adult rate with reduced park fees.
  • Serengeti Wakanda Tours and Safaris: Says park fees for children aged 5 to 15 are roughly half the adult rate and lists family and interconnecting rooms in the mid-range tier.

Gosheni Safaris Africa says child car seats are available on request and its specialists choose lodges and pace to suit the family, while Lion King Adventures says safaris are not normally recommended for under-5s; neither states child rates.

Who to contact first

Start with the operators that publish child prices, then those that publish child seats or park-fee terms, because each can quote a family without guessing the children's rates.

  1. Nature Bound Africa: Contact first because it publishes child rates by age band, so a mixed-age family can be priced quickly.
  2. Uwanda Tours and Safaris: Next because it publishes child prices per safari, with Nyerere and Zanzibar examples.
  3. SafariBando: Third because it states child terms on trip pages, including a family tent for 2 adults and 3 children at one camp.
  4. Ryder Signature: Fourth because it gives age-banded child discounts and ages 5+ for family safaris.
  5. Serengeti Wakanda Tours and Safaris: Fifth because it gives park-fee terms by age and family rooms in the mid-range tier.
  6. Altezza Travel: Sixth because it lists child seats and boosters, an age requirement of 3+ and discounts for children under 16.

Enquiry brief: give each child's exact age and ask the company to itemise the child rate or discount by age, the park fees, the family room or tent, the child seat in the vehicle, the daily drive time and any minimum age on walks, balloon flights or other activities.
