The best Galapagos cruise ship in 2026 is Quasar Expeditions' M/V Evolution, at 85/100: 32 guests with one naturalist per ten, fares published cabin by cabin with the US$200 park fee included, and a US$50,000 evacuation-insurance minimum, the only one published in the field. Quasar's M/Y Grace follows at 83, Ecoventura's Origin, Theory and Evolve at 78 and Aqua Expeditions' Aqua Mare at 64. Eleven ships were assessed on five published criteria; four clear the pass mark of 60, and all four carry 32 guests or fewer. Ranked on guests per guide, published fares, ship and cabins, itineraries and booking terms, the best Galapagos cruise ships in 2026 are M/V Evolution (85), M/Y Grace (83), Ecoventura's Origin, Theory and Evolve (78) and Aqua Mare (64). Every vessel in the islands works within the same park limits, so what separates them is how many guests share each guide and how much each operator tells you before you pay. The rubric and pass mark were fixed before any ship was scored.

Score breakdown by criterion

Size decides the first criterion and disclosure decides the rest. All four ranked ships carry 32 guests or fewer and publish a guide ratio, so they take 22 to 25 of 25 on guests per guide; the 90- to 100-guest ships take 6 unless they publish a guide count. Quasar's two ships lead because Quasar is the only operator here that publishes fares by cabin, a refit year, cabin sizes and a mandatory evacuation-insurance minimum (US$50,000) together. Ecoventura publishes the fullest fare table and the only day-by-day route among the four, but its own pages give no build year or cabin sizes, which leaves it 4 of 20 on the ship. Aqua Mare publishes no fare by cabin and scores 10 on pricing. Metropolitan Touring's Yacht La Pinta, with four guides for 48 guests and a published route, is the closest of the rest and is assessed but not ranked.

Small ship or large ship in the Galapagos: guests per guide compared

Galapagos National Park allows no more than 16 visitors per naturalist guide, and the ships that publish a ratio run well below it: one guide per eight on M/Y Grace and Aqua Mare, one per ten on M/V Evolution and Ecoventura's yachts, and about one per twelve on Metropolitan Touring's Santa Cruz II and Yacht La Pinta. The 16-visitor limit is quoted on Metropolitan Touring's own pages; the widely reported 100-guest ceiling per vessel matches the largest ships here, which all carry 96 to 100. Silversea, Celebrity and Lindblad do not publish a guide count for their Galapagos ships.

Two cautions. A small ship lands everyone together but moves more in open water, so stabilisers matter: Quasar lists them for M/Y Grace, and none of the other small ships states them. And the Metropolitan Touring figure of about twelve per guide applies to a full ship; the company's own wording is "well below" the park's limit. What the fare includes varies more than the fare: the US$200 park fee, the US$20 transit card and the flight from the mainland are each included by some operators and not others.

M/V Evolution is a 58.5-metre ship with 16 cabins across three decks, last refitted in 2017, with cabins from 140 to 263 square feet and a doctor on board. It takes the full 25 on pricing: fares are published by cabin for 2026, from US$9,950 for eight days and US$18,900 for fifteen, and the fare includes the US$200 park fee, the transit card, snorkel gear, wetsuits and kayaks, with inter-island flights (about US$473 to US$530) and gratuities listed as extras. Booking terms take the full 15: Quasar's terms ask a US$1,800 deposit, the balance 90 days out, forfeit only the deposit more than 95 days out, and require at least US$50,000 of medical evacuation cover. Guests per guide scores 22, one guide per ten for 32 guests. The weak score is itineraries, 7 of 15: Quasar names three routes, from Baltra and from San Cristóbal, but its ship page gives no day-by-day island list.

Sixteen guests with one guide per eight take the full 25 on group size. Pricing scores 21: 2026 fares run from US$10,950 to US$13,900 for eight days and US$20,800 to US$26,400 for fifteen, with the transit card included, but the ship page does not say plainly whether the US$200 park fee is. Booking terms match Evolution's, including the US$50,000 evacuation minimum. The weak score is itineraries, 6 of 15: three routes are named, from Baltra or Puerto Ayora, without a day-by-day list or a statement on mainland flights.

3. Origin, Theory and Evolve, Ecoventura: 78/100

Ecoventura's three identical yachts carry 20 guests in ten cabins with two naturalists, which takes the full 25 on group size, and its fare table is the most complete in the field: for 2026, US$10,950 in a deluxe double, US$10,750 in a triple, US$19,950 single and US$21,900 for the Premium Suite, with the park fee, transit card, flights and suggested gratuities of about US$400 a week all listed as extras. It is the only ranked operator with a published day-by-day route, from San Cristóbal via Española, Floreana, Santa Cruz, Bartolomé and North Seymour. Its terms take US$1,000 a person for 2026, the balance 90 days out, and refund all but half the deposit up to 120 days before departure; insurance is recommended, not required. The weak score is the ship, 4 of 20: Ecoventura's own pages give no build year, cabin size or flag.

4. Aqua Mare, Aqua Expeditions: 64/100

Aqua Mare is a 1998 CRN yacht refitted in 2021, with seven cabins including an 80-square-metre owner's suite, and two guides for 16 guests. Its fare includes park entrance fees, wine and beer, laundry and Wi-Fi, and Aqua quotes the flight separately (about US$520 in economy for 2026). Its booking terms take a US$1,000 deposit and the balance 90 days out, refund the deposit less US$500 up to 121 days before departure, and advise insurance without requiring it. The weak score is pricing, 10 of 25, because Aqua publishes no fare by cabin for its seven- and fourteen-night voyages.

Metropolitan Touring's Yacht La Pinta, Yacht Isabela II and Santa Cruz II, Lindblad's National Geographic Islander II and Endeavour II, Celebrity Flora and Silversea's Silver Origin were assessed on the same evidence and scored below the pass mark of 60. The three largest brands in the islands, Silversea, Celebrity and Lindblad, share the same gap: none publishes a guide count, and Silversea and Celebrity publish no Galapagos fare by cabin. Three planning rules for a Galapagos cruise

1 · Compare the fare after the park fee, transit card and flights. Quasar's Evolution and Aqua Mare include the US$200 park fee; Ecoventura does not. Add about US$520 for the flight from the mainland where it is extra.

2 · Choose the ship size before the brand. On a 16- to 20-guest yacht everyone lands together with a guide for every eight to ten; on a 100-guest ship the park rule of 16 per guide means several groups at each site.

What changed for Galapagos cruises in 2026

Three dated changes shape a Galapagos cruise booked for 2026 or 2027: the doubled park fee, Metropolitan Touring's longer itineraries, and higher 2027 fares.

1 August 2024. The park fee for foreign adults rose from US$100 to US$200 under the Galapagos Government Council resolution; 2026 is the second full season at the new rate.

1 March 2026. Metropolitan Touring launched nine-day routes on Yacht Isabela II and Yacht La Pinta, priced at about US$9,208 and US$11,974 per person.

2027 season. Ecoventura's published fares rise from US$10,950 to US$11,500 for a deluxe double, and its deposit from US$1,000 to US$1,500 per person.
