Orange Travel vs Bouygues Telecom vs Vodafone Travel 2026: Three Carrier eSIMs for Europe Compared, and What Each Is Best For

By Richard J. · written from Valencia3 carrier eSIMs · 4 published testsVerified 5 October 2026

Orange Travel is best for heavy data with calls included (100 GB for 30 days at $57.99, with a French number and unlimited calls and texts within Europe), Bouygues Telecom's My European eSIM is the cheapest way to get a phone number (20 GB for 15 days with unlimited European calls and texts at €19.90), and Vodafone Travel eSIM is best for families and groups, with one data-only plan shared across up to five devices. These three are sold by mobile network operators rather than by apps such as Airalo, and two of them come with a real phone number. Figures were read on 5 October 2026; where a carrier's own page could not be read, the source is named.

Orange Travel vs Bouygues Telecom vs Vodafone Travel: which carrier eSIM is best for what?

Choose Orange Travel for a month of heavy use with calls, Bouygues for a fortnight with a French number at the lowest price, and Vodafone Travel eSIM when several people need to share one data plan.

How the verdicts are reached. Four tests, each decided by a published figure: whether the plan includes a phone number and calls · the price of the plan a two-week visitor would buy · the price per gigabyte on the largest 30-day plan · whether one plan can serve several people. No score out of 100 is given: these three have not been through the rubric of our September comparison, which was built for data apps. Orange's figures come from its own site. Vodafone's plan sizes come from its own site, but its prices load only in a browser and could not be read for this page. Bouygues's prices are from two third-party listings that agree. The verdicts are ours; the inputs are linked.

The carriers sell large allowances with calls; the apps sell small allowances without them. A visitor who needs 10 GB and no phone number pays less with an app: Jetpac charged $22 and Airalo $31 for 10 GB over 30 days on the dates we read them. A visitor who will ring restaurants, hotels and drivers, or who wants 50 GB or more, is better served by Orange or Bouygues.

Which carrier eSIM for Europe includes a phone number and calls?

Orange Travel and Bouygues both include a French phone number with unlimited calls and texts within Europe; Vodafone Travel eSIM is data only. The test is what the carrier's plan description states. Orange lists every Europe plan as "Data + Calls + SMS". Bouygues includes calls and texts from its Basic+ plan upwards and sells one data-only plan, Travel Basic.

Carrier eSIMNumberCalls and textsCheapest plan with calls
Orange TravelFrench (+33)Unlimited within Europe4 GB for 7 days, $9.99
Bouygues TelecomFrench (+33)Unlimited in France and Europe, from Basic+20 GB for 15 days, €19.90
Vodafone Travel eSIMNoneData onlyNot applicable

Two cautions. A French number is not your number: your bank's codes and your contacts still reach your home SIM, so keep it active in the phone and use the carrier eSIM for data and local calls. And calls outside Europe are not part of "unlimited"; a call home to North America is charged separately or handled by an app. Keeping your number and WhatsApp with an eSIM covers the set-up, and Best eSIM with a phone number compares these two with the apps that sell numbers.

Which is cheapest: Orange Travel, Bouygues or Vodafone Travel?

Bouygues is cheapest for a stay of up to a month with moderate data (30 GB for 30 days at €29.90), Orange Travel is cheapest per gigabyte for heavy use (100 GB for $57.99, 200 GB for $69.99), and Vodafone Travel eSIM's prices could not be read on 5 October 2026. Orange prices are in US dollars on its English site; Bouygues prices are in euros.

On Vodafone: its Europe page lists plan sizes and a limited-time offer of 15 per cent off and double data on selected plans, but the prices load only in a browser. The one published reference is its launch pricing, reported by Simdealz as $39 for 10 GB over 30 days; the plan sizes have changed since, so check the live page. If you are deciding between a carrier plan and your own operator's roaming pass, eSIM vs roaming does that sum.

Which carrier eSIM is best for families and groups?

Vodafone Travel eSIM, because its Travel Together plan shares one data allowance across up to five devices, listed at 100 GB for 15 days in Europe. Neither Orange nor Bouygues lists a shared plan; with those, one phone holds the plan and the others connect to its hotspot.

Carrier eSIMShared planHow a group would use it
Vodafone Travel eSIMTravel Together: one plan, up to five devicesEach device gets its own connection from one 100 GB allowance
Orange TravelNone listedOne phone on a 100 GB or 200 GB plan, shared by hotspot
Bouygues TelecomNone listedOne phone on a 60 GB plan, shared by hotspot

A hotspot ties the group to one phone and drains its battery, which is the practical case for Vodafone's shared plan. Its limit is that it is data only: nobody in the group gets a number. The Europe eSIM guide compares the app-based regional plans for the same trip.

Outside Europe, only two of the three still apply. Orange states that Orange Travel covers more than 200 destinations, and Vodafone Travel eSIM sells plans by country and region worldwide. Bouygues's My European eSIM is a Europe product. For Japan, the USA or a multi-region trip, compare them with the data apps in Best travel eSIM 2026.

Orange Travel, Bouygues and Vodafone Travel in detail

Orange Travel: best for heavy data with calls included

100 GB for 30 days: $57.99 · French number, unlimited calls and texts within Europe · 40+ European countries

Orange Travel is the new name for Orange Holiday Europe; Orange says the network, coverage and plans are unchanged. Every Europe plan listed includes data, calls and SMS, from 4 GB for a week at $9.99 to 500 GB for 90 days at $119.99, and the step from 50 GB ($53.99) to 100 GB ($57.99) costs four dollars. That pricing makes it the choice for long stays, remote work and anyone sharing a connection. The weak point is the small end: 20 GB for 14 days at $29.99 is dearer than Bouygues's equivalent, and a traveller who wants 5 or 10 GB without calls will pay less with a data app. Source: Orange Travel's Europe pricing, read 5 October 2026.

Bouygues Telecom My European eSIM: best for the cheapest plan with a number

20 GB for 15 days with calls: €19.90 · 30 GB for 30 days: €29.90 · France and 34 other European countries

Bouygues Telecom sells four tourist plans: Travel Basic (15 GB for 15 days, €14.90, data only), Basic+ (20 GB for 15 days, €19.90), 30 GB for 30 days at €29.90 and 60 GB for 30 days at €39.90, the last three with a French number and unlimited calls and texts in France and Europe. For a two-week holiday it undercuts Orange by about a fifth. The weak points are reach and range: it is a Europe product with nothing for Japan or the USA, and its largest plan is 60 GB. These prices are from the eSIMDB listing and Selectra's guide, which reports reading them on Bouygues's site in July 2026; we could not read Bouygues's own page for this article.

Vodafone Travel eSIM: best for families and groups

Data only, 5G ready · Travel Together: one plan for up to five devices · 40+ European countries

Vodafone Travel eSIM is Vodafone's data-only travel product, sold to anyone through its own site and app. Its Europe plans run from 1 GB for 7 days to 50 GB for 90 days, with a Europe Unlimited plan for 15 days and the Travel Together plan that shares 100 GB across up to five devices for 15 days. On 5 October 2026 the site advertised 15 per cent off every plan and double data on selected plans for a limited time. The weak points are that it includes no phone number and that its prices cannot be read without a browser, so they are not compared here. Source: Vodafone Travel eSIM's site, read 5 October 2026.

Three planning rules for carrier eSIMs in Europe

1 · Decide whether you need to make phone calls. If you will ring restaurants, hotels or a driver, a French number with unlimited European calls is worth more than a few gigabytes. If you only message, a data plan is enough.

2 · Buy by the gigabyte you will use, not the gigabyte you are offered. A week in one European city uses 2 to 3 GB; 100 GB suits remote work or a shared connection. The data estimator sizes it.

3 · Check three countries before paying: the UK, Switzerland and Turkey. They sit outside the EU's roaming rules and are the ones most often missing from a Europe plan.

What changed for carrier eSIMs in 2026

Orange renamed Orange Holiday Europe as Orange Travel, keeping the plans and coverage. Orange's Europe range now reaches 500 GB for 90 days at $119.99, as listed on 5 October 2026. Vodafone Travel eSIM's Europe plans no longer match its launch pricing, reported by Simdealz as $39 for 10 GB over 30 days; on 5 October 2026 the 10 GB plan was listed for 15 days with a further 10 GB free. Bouygues's tourist range, which Selectra dates to 2025, now runs to four plans from €14.90 to €39.90.

All three are prepaid and need no contract; keep your home SIM active for calls and codes sent to your usual number.
