Its scores on the cruise indexes differ because they measure ships and voyages (ice class, guests ashore, fares), while this record scores the company on the five criteria below.

Quark publishes the things expedition buyers usually have to ask for: a fare and dates on every sampled voyage, what the fare includes, the names of the people who guide ashore, and a cancellation scale. What it does not publish is a line that answers at 3am on a Sunday, and UK buyers who read to the bottom of the terms find their contract is with a different company.

Who owns Quark Expeditions?

Quark Expeditions belongs to the Travelopia group, owned by the investment firm KKR, and has been led since December 2024 by president Sam Seward.

Seward ran Travelopia's adventure brands, including Exodus Adventure Travels, for seven years before taking over from Andrew White, who had been president since 2014. The group link matters to UK buyers: their Quark contract is with Exodus Travels Ltd, not with a Quark company, under the UK booking terms.

Quark is a polar specialist and says so: "Polar Is All We Do". Its fleet for 2026-27 is Ultramarine, Ocean Explorer and, from November 2026, World Voyager, chartered from Atlas Ocean Voyages for three Antarctic seasons after World Explorer's final season in 2025-26. How much does a Quark Expeditions voyage cost?

Quark Expeditions voyages read for this record cost from USD 11,011 per person for 11 days in Svalbard to USD 38,721 for 23 days to the Falklands, South Georgia and across the Antarctic Circle. All prices were read on 25 September 2026 on Quark's own voyage pages; several are reduced fares with the original shown beside them.

Fares include the parka, Zodiac landings, meals and, on many voyages, a hotel night and charter flights to the ship; Emperor Penguin Quest includes two helicopter flights. International flights and the medical insurance Quark requires, at least USD 50,000 per traveller, are extra. One page, South Greenland Adventure, showed a fare of USD 0.00 on the read date, which the rubric treats as no price. Quark Expeditions booking terms and financial protection

Quark Expeditions takes a 25% deposit when you book more than 150 days before departure and wants the balance 150 days out; after the first 15 days, cancelling costs at least 25% of the total.

The US booking terms apply to bookings from 24 June 2026. UK buyers are on different terms, from 17 March 2025, with Exodus Travels Ltd: a 25% deposit of at least £1,000, the balance 120 days out, a flat £1,000 fee to 180 days, loss of the deposit to 120 days, then 50%, 75% and 100% from 59 days. USTOA's directory lists Quark as a member, and its protection page says USD 1 million is posted for the USTOA Travelers Assistance Program. The UK contract carries ATOL 2582 and ABTA Y0751 and falls under the Package Travel Regulations 2018. Who guides a Quark voyage

Quark Expeditions publishes a named directory of its expedition staff and states a ratio of six guests to each guide, with the team trained through its own Quark Academy.

Jonathan Shackleton, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, has accompanied 30 groups to the Antarctic in the past 15 years as historian, guide and Zodiac driver; Robert Headland, a Senior Associate at the Scott Polar Research Institute in Cambridge, holds the Polar Medal. Support on board and at home

Quark publishes no number that answers around the clock every day: advisors work 24 hours on weekdays and until 4pm Eastern on Saturdays, and in-voyage emergency contacts arrive with the final documents.

On board, the FAQs promise a ship doctor and basic medical facilities, and warn that "adequate medical facility could be up to 72 hours (or more) away, dependent on weather conditions", which is why Quark requires medical insurance of at least USD 50,000 per traveller. Quark Expeditions holds 4.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot from 516 reviews and 4.4 on Cruise Critic from 97, enough for full marks on reviews.

Its Trustpilot profile is claimed and the newest review was days old at the read. Quark's own reviews page still quotes "5/5 from 251 reviews", an older snapshot. Quark Expeditions suits travellers who want a polar specialist with published fares, named guides, helicopter and emperor penguin voyages, and USTOA or ATOL cover depending on where they book.
