Ponant is the Marseille expedition cruise line owned since 2015 by Artémis, the Pinault family's holding company, and it holds 4.6 on Trustpilot from 631 reviews, but its own site refused our reader on every page, including its terms, so this record assesses it line by line and gives it no score. Resellers list its icebreaker Le Commandant Charcot from USD 11,260 per person, and a new chief executive, Benoît-Étienne Domenget, took over in November 2025. Who owns Ponant?

Ponant is owned by Groupe Artémis, the holding company of the Pinault family, which bought it from the private equity firm Bridgepoint in 2015.

Artémis acquired Ponant in October 2015. The French registry, read through Pappers, lists Compagnie du Ponant as an SAS at 408 avenue du Prado in Marseille and shows François Pinault joining its supervisory board on 27 July 2026. Benoît-Étienne Domenget, formerly chief executive of Sommet Education, became group chief executive on 3 November 2025, succeeding Hervé Gastinel, and in January 2025 Ponant took a majority stake in Aqua Expeditions.

How much does a Ponant voyage cost?

Resellers list Ponant voyages from USD 6,410 per person for ten days in northern Europe on Le Lapérouse to USD 40,963 for 13 days in Greenland in a suite on Le Commandant Charcot. Ponant's own site could not be read, so all prices here come from resellers and CruiseMapper, read on 25 September 2026, and are graded B or C.

Le Commandant Charcot is a Polar Class 2 icebreaker, which is why our expedition cruise operator index credits Ponant with the strongest ice class in civilian expedition cruising; our Arctic lines index notes that at 270 guests it is above Svalbard's limit for protected areas. The resellers' fares are for the cabin shown; the booking terms that apply to them could not be read.

The Trustpilot profile has been claimed by Ponant since March 2022, and its newest review was dated 30 August 2026. Who Ponant suits, and who it does not

Ponant suits travellers who want a French luxury ship, the reach of a Polar Class 2 icebreaker in the high Arctic and Antarctica, and a wide choice of warm-water voyages on smaller ships.
