Meet Belma

"Bosnian by birth, Canadian by chapter, home again by choice."

Belma was born in northern Bosnia. She was still a child when the war came and her family left — carried, like so many, far from home. They settled eventually in Montreal, and that is where she grew up: where she learned English and French alongside her native Bosnian, where she built a career across banking and hospitality, and where she raised two children, now in their late teens.

Montreal was a good life, and a long one. There was no single dramatic moment that called her back — just a quiet, persistent pull that never quite faded, the particular gravity a homeland keeps even across decades and an ocean. For years it was a someday. Then, in 2021, someday arrived. She came back to Bosnia, settled in Mostar, and has never once regretted it. She has no plans to leave.

What she brings to a journey is unusual, and it's the whole reason this part of Uncompromised Travel exists. She has an insider's roots — the language, the families, the doors that only open for someone who belongs — paired with a returnee's clear eyes, able to see her own country freshly, the way a guest might. Her years in banking left her with a quiet precision: the kind of host who has already thought of the thing you didn't. And her French unlocks a country that has almost no luxury hosting for Francophone travellers at all.
