Copenhagen is the capital of cool, calm Scandinavian living — a cyclable, design-obsessed harbour city of colourful Nyhavn, the historic Tivoli pleasure gardens, royal palaces, and one of the world's most celebrated food scenes, all wrapped in an easy, hygge-filled atmosphere. It's compact and walkable, and best in the long days of late spring and summer. This is our shortlist of what's worth booking.
Live availability and prices from GetYourGuide, sorted by what travellers actually rate. The canal tours, Tivoli and food and design experiences are the headline bookings.
Copenhagen has cool summers and cold, dark winters. Late spring through summer brings long days and the city outdoors; winter is cosy, festive and short on daylight.
The non-activity essentials — same partners we use ourselves.
Coverage that follows you globally — medical, evacuation, lost baggage. Subscription-style, cancel anytime. Sensible for longer European trips without strong card cover.
Pre-booked transfer from Copenhagen (CPH), ~20 min to the centre. The Metro from the airport is excellent, but a fixed-price car is simplest with luggage.
Denmark or Europe-wide data plans you install before you fly. No SIM swapping, no roaming charges, working the moment you land. One plan can cover multiple European countries.
Compare rental providers across Copenhagen. Free cancellation on most. You won't need a car — Copenhagen is one of the world's great cycling and transit cities. Hire one only for the castles of North Zealand. Denmark uses the krone (DKK), not the euro.

Two to three days covers the city — Nyhavn and the harbour, Tivoli, the palaces, the design and food scene, and a canal tour. Add a day for a castle day trip (Kronborg, Frederiksborg) or a hop across to Malmö in Sweden. Copenhagen is compact and walkable, so you see a lot without rushing.
Yes — Denmark is one of Europe's pricier countries, with high costs for dining, drinks and hotels. You can manage it: cycle (bike hire is cheap and the city is built for it), eat from food halls and bakeries, enjoy the free harbour swimming in summer, and use a Copenhagen Card if you're hitting several paid sights. Budget accordingly but don't be deterred.
Yes — Tivoli is one of the world's oldest amusement parks (opened 1843) and far more charming than that suggests: landscaped gardens, vintage rides, concerts and restaurants in the heart of the city. It's especially magical when decorated for Halloween and Christmas. It reportedly helped inspire Walt Disney, and it's a Copenhagen institution.
Exceptionally — it's a global culinary capital, home to noma and a constellation of acclaimed restaurants that drove the New Nordic movement. But it's not only fine dining: superb bakeries (try a cardamom bun), the buzzing food halls like Reffen and Torvehallerne, and excellent smørrebrød (open sandwiches) make it rewarding at every budget.
May to August for the long days, mild weather and the city at its outdoor, harbour-swimming best — June has nearly 18 hours of daylight. September is a lovely shoulder. December is cold and dark but magical, with Tivoli and the streets dressed for Christmas. Avoid November, the greyest month.
