A meaningful number of Americans are going to show up at the airport this summer, get to the gate, and discover they can't fly to Europe.

How to get it (the legitimate way)

1. Go to the official EU ETIAS website (travel-europe.europa.eu/etias). Don't use Google ads — the top results are often scam sites charging $80-$120 for the same €7 service.
2. Fill out the application: passport details, contact info, travel plans, basic security questions. Takes 10-15 minutes.
3. Pay €7 via card. Submit application.
4. Wait for approval. Most approvals come within minutes. A small percentage take up to 30 days for additional review.
5. Receive approval via email linked to the passport. No physical document needed — border officials check electronically.
